DS Nursery want to see his Red Book?

JC2021 · 15/09/2021 18:56

Is this usual? The nursery have requested to see my sons red book as apparently there is a bit they 'need to fill in'? He started last week.

I've got nothing to hide, but it is personal after all!

Any thoughts? Im guessing it's the immunisation bit they are interested in..?

Thx

Yep, immunisation record!

MrsPumpkinSeed · 15/09/2021 18:57

That does seem very personal. I had to provide proof of immunisations but not give in the book.

Oh9autumn · 15/09/2021 18:58

Ours didn’t- but they did ask for birth certificate and we had to details dates of jabs etc.
It might negate having to provide lots of individual bits of info…

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/09/2021 18:58

My DS's nursery asked me to bring it on his first day. I can't remember why, but if I was guessing they are verifying vaccinations.

Legoisaws8om · 15/09/2021 19:04

How old is your son? They are meant to do a joint 2 year development check whereby the nursery fill out one page and the hv does the rest.

Peanutsandchilli · 15/09/2021 19:21

I'm not sure about verifying vaccinations. Due to covid, the nurses at our GP surgery weren't filling anything in so I'd be surprised if many recent vaccinations have been logged anywhere but on the computer.

girlmom21 · 15/09/2021 19:23

Our nursery never asked for the red book but they ask for vaccination details. It could also be for height/weight details etc.

Just ask?

JC2021 · 15/09/2021 19:31

My son is 2 and 11 months (turns 3 in October)

He hasn't had a formal 2-2.5yr check yet (I've never been contacted I'm guessing due to covid)

I don't mind them seeing it just curious as to why some nurseries request it and others don't..

We weren’t asked for it. I would ask why and provide them with necessary pages. They should give you a proper decent reason for needing personal info on your child.

JC2021 · 15/09/2021 19:40

The nursery are saying they "need to complete a section in the red book as part of your child's development in their early years". ?

Which bit?

AnnaSW1 · 15/09/2021 19:46

Its normal here

RobinPenguins · 15/09/2021 19:47

I never had to provide any of that

Yes it'll be the 2 year check

Charmatt · 15/09/2021 19:59

You only need to have it open at the page they need. They do not have a right to see any other parts of it if you don't wish them too. Don't give it to them and pick it up later.

Also check their privacy notice for parents to see what they have stated

BlueberrySugar · 15/09/2021 20:33

My son is 2 years 2 months and has his check later this month. You might want to get onto them about that!

JC2021 · 15/09/2021 20:53

Amazing, thank you.. I might literally just provide the page that they need and hold the rest back.. it does seem intrusive to me to be honest.. there's a lot in there about my sore boobs/sons tongue tie and all unrelated and not for their info..

I might just hand them the immunisation bit and the 2-2.5 health review

Thanks everyone x

Never been requested for one of my children and no nursery I've ever worked in has requested it.

The early years 2 year check isn't the same thing as the HV health review so seems very weird they would want to fill in his red book.

Oblomov21 · 15/09/2021 21:16

Think I'd just photocopy / genius scan those 2 pages. I find this very intrusive, and overstepping the mark. I wouldn't want them knowing about 'sore boobs and tongue tie' ( I had both with both ds's) - it's none of their friggin business.
But, I would've chased up the 2 year check, in the last few months, post the covid worst, and you haven't so maybe that's ringing alarm bells?

JC2021 · 15/09/2021 22:11

I had a health visitor do a 2 year check over the phone, that's it.. nothing was ever written down in the red book.. happy to give those pages only / not happy to hand over full book though - surely other parents might not be either

OP posts:
crazyguineapiglady · 15/09/2021 22:13

They don't need the health review page in the red book Confused They should be doing their own developmental check in writing.

BoredZelda · 15/09/2021 22:54

Nope. Was never asked for mine and wouldn’t give it.

Sh05 · 15/09/2021 23:03

I've had 4 children go through nursery, never been asked for the red book.
It's for medical professionals to fill out. There definitely isn't a section in any of my red books that indicates it's to be filled out by childcare providers or nursery staff.

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/09/2021 23:05

Really don’t see the concern ?

Jsh125 · 15/09/2021 23:07

Ours asked for it. They just added to the notes section that they'd started nursery & then again when they did the 2 - 2/12 year check. Literally just wrote that it had been completed so don't think they'd have any cause to snoop through it - I wasn't worried if they did but like others said, you could either question why or give it to them on the page they need & ask them to complete there & then so you can keep hold of it rather than leave it with nursery.
