I have read somewhere that as I was a stay at home money to look after my 2 kids for 10 years whilst my ex husband worked full time that I can piggy back on his state pension and get mine topped up - anyone got any experience with this ?

did you claim child benefit?

Check here to see if you have enough contributions

If you received child benefit during this time you will have NI credits for the years your children were 12 or below.

So you don't need to "piggy back" on ex's state pension.

If you are divorced
You may be able to get an increase of basic State Pension by using your ex-husband or wife's National Insurance contributions
