Counsellor or Therapist??

Apologies have never really posted and not the sort of thing I would normally do but I really need to discuss my very complex thoughts around my 30 year relationship (23 years married) and whether I need to end it or remain. I need to do it alone, my husband has no idea about any of this but I need to get my thoughts straight or at least try to understand them before broaching anything with him. I also will be making a Dr's apt as I am 50 this year and I suspect the peri menopause may be affecting my thought process. My question is who do I need to speak to? A therapist or a counsellor? How would I go about finding someone suitable?

Neither of those is a protected title; anything can call themselves a therapist or a counsellor, and people who have trained in counselling may call themselves a therapist while people who have trained in psychotherapy may call themselves a counsellor. You can go on a commercial listings website like counselling directory and find somebody who's registered with a professional body as explained here: www.counselling-directory.org.uk/accreditation.html or perhaps find organisations near you that offer counselling.
