Is your other half your best friend? Does that actually happen in relationships ?

You would have to define what you mean by 'best mate'.

If you mean the person you enjoy being with most (excepting your DC of course!), the one you confide in and they confide in you, you trust them the most, you share hopes and dreams and interests, have the best laughs, then really it ought to be your OH. By that definition my DH is my best mate.

I can't think of a definition of best mate when it wouldn't be him, unless it's 'all of the above but without any physical attraction', in which case it would be my best female friend. Actually it would be my DD but I'm very aware it isn't healthy to consider your children as your 'friends'.

Love my DH and he is now one of my best friends, but I do have my childhood friends too and high school friends. DH also has childhood friends but is happy to see them infrequently (he's terrible at arranging stuff).

I find that I genuinely love coming home to DH though and look forward to seeing him when he's done at work, and not just to relieve me of the baby care 😂 we've been through some very formative years together.
