I wonder if DF is being financially abused?

DFriend (42) is hardworking, good job, used to rent. Been with partner 5 years, no DC together (neither want them).

Home was owned outright by the partner and DF moved in. However, DF has been pursuaded to pay all the bills in the house, pay for an expensive car for DP, make expensive financial gifts to the oldest DD of partner (£11K) and has now opened a joint account which DP does not contribute. Partner works 12 hours a week, low pay.

So DF is being asked to pay in more and more. The DP talked initially about adding DF to the deeds in a percentage but this has stopped. The DP is now forbidding DF seeing their DC so often.

Ive said to DF this doesn't sound healthy, but they said DP is the love of their life and they are both very happy. They do look happy, but who wouldn't be if someone was prepared to fund your lifestyle with endless money? Most of DFs savings (£100K) have been spent on enlarging the house DP owns.

I have decided to step back, but am so worried as DF is ridiculously trusting and I can see this going tits up and they are left with nothing.

I agree, definitely sounds dodgy. But if they are so in love, maybe marriage would be a good step to offer a bit of protection.

Yes that absolutely sounds like financial abuse. If it were me I would tell DF straight. Why is she sharing this much financial info with you? I think she must have doubts herself.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do until your DF sees what is happening to her.
All the time DF believes this is the live of their life they won't see the reality of their situation.
Just be there and help when needed.

DFs partner has said all along they wouldn't remarry.

DF says this is the most they've ever been in love and they seem very happy, but I can see some red flags, but I know it will be ignored. They seem happy together, so I can only give gentle advice when asked. I'll keep my fingers crossed it is genuine.
