How often do you get time together at a couple with no children?

I was just after some insight into other couples as I want to know if my wants are reasonable.

Been together 5 years, 4 children between us ages from 10 to 2, eldest has SEN. Since the youngest was born I have not had anytime away from her due to lockdowns and now she has separation anxiety that we are working on.

It’s taken a massive toll on my relationship and we are at the point now where things need to change as neither of us are happy. Im constantly overwhelmed and just need some headspace and time with adults.

I’m going to try and arrange a child free evening once a month to try and claw back some sort of relationship in all the chaos. DP works shifts all hours so we rarely have any evenings together and never any weekends.

DPs family seem to think I’m expecting too much and this is just what life is going to look like for the next 10 years. I’m not expecting them to do any of the childcare it’s just what has been said in conversations as me and DP have been in a rough patch for the last year.

So do you think once a month is excessive and not a realistic expectation. At this point if I could I would have a childfree night once a week but I know that’s not going to happen. How does everyone else’s relationship survive having such little time to be a couple?

How often do you have time to just be together?
