My ex says he's 'given me a house

My ex and I split up when our son was three. Due to inheritance we were both fortunate enough to be able to own our own house outright. I agreed to have a house mortgage free, rather than claim maintenance off my ex. Around 70 per cent of this was paid for through his inheritance. This is fine but what bothers is me is the language he uses with me now. He regularly says he's 'given' me a house and that he's 'set me up for life.' This language feels wrong to me as to me as this was a financial agreement and is about putting a roof over our son's head. I feel like my ex is trying to make me feel like I owe him something and that this is wrong. What do other people think?

Ah I had this from my ex too. He even wanted me to write a will leaving it to my daughter when I remarried. Ignore the twat.

You can't change the way others behave, only how you respond to it. this ^

every time he suggests he gave you the house

just smile sweetly and say - it saved you thousands in child maintenance didn't it - have on repeat, repeat the same frase over and over again - in fact if you can parrot this frase out before he even mentions the house he gave you, all the better....

Just eye roll every time he says it, don’t think to his level OP.

These men are hilarious (got one myself)!

My ex was the same, said he given me the house (so he could keep his pension and a buy to let in his name in a clean break divorce!). NO you've given me half a house, which was less than all your other assets, because half of the house was mine already.... and also the first house we ever owned, which got us onto the property ladder was due to me getting the mortgage on my wages. That was fogotten too.

or, indeed, *sink to his level!

To be fair if you died and left it to your new husband your DC may never see a penny!

Oh, and my best friends ex also likes to tell her he's given her a house. He hasn't - he's given her the mortgage, the twat Grin

That's not the point though. It's my property, therefore fuck all to do with him. He doesn't get to tell me what to do.

XH was very much like this, conveniently forgetting that it was our money that allowed him to set up one business and then another, which he draws a measly salary, but very good dividends, from. (All for tax purposes of course.)
He once had the cheek to tell me he didn't have much money. I curtly replied that as he was living in a dual-income house (OW and he got a house together), and I was living in a single-income home, that I found it insulting.
He never said another word!
If you must reply at all, I would make it clear that you claim no maintenance from him and ask why he is complaining.
If you've heard it second-hand, be upfront about it and tell people your situation. It will get back to him and he'll likely shut up.
