Dad mentioning my weight!

Weight000 · 13/06/2021 11:46

I am petite and have always been very slim, my Dad has mentioned on occasions about my weight (as in I’m underweight,) I personally don’t think I am, as I have always been naturally slim, even during my pregnancies, I never gained a significant amount of weight but I don’t know if I’m not seeing this and that maybe I do need to gain some more weight. I have been through a bit of emotional stress recently and that often causes me to lose weight. I am a very busy and active person too.

You can check your weight on the NHS BMI calculator. It's not always clear just by looking

me4real · 13/06/2021 11:54

You could check your BMI here www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/ It is accurate unless someone's a professional bodybuilder or something.

If you don't own scales then branches of Boots often have some you can go in and use.

What counts is the medical/scientific facts of your weight, not any of us subjectively giving an opinion when we may not be able to 100% tell from a pic.

me4real · 13/06/2021 11:57

The Boots machines give a printed out slip that also shows your BMI, as the machine also measures your height.

You could call a branch beforehand to check if they have some of the scales.

I don't own a scale as I can get a bit obsessive about weighing myself otherwise.

Weight000 · 13/06/2021 12:00

Thank you, I think I will do that, as I don’t own any scales.

My friend is naturally very slim(also very healthy) and this always used to annoy her (and us) that people think it's ok to say anything they like about her weight. Its rude, is your dad one of those "speak as I find" people or just tactless? Hugs to you OP sounds like you're going through a hard time aswell Flowers

coogee · 13/06/2021 12:17

is your dad one of those "speak as I find" people or just tactless?

Is there any difference?

Weight000 · 13/06/2021 12:20

@Ripley1977 - Thank you for your kind words. He often says things without thinking, he is a loving Dad though.

Hi OP, just wanted to also suggest working out your BMI. My weight really varies and I also hate when people uninvitedly and tactlessly comment on it Thanks

Ripley1977 · 13/06/2021 12:29

Ah I know what you mean, my mum can be a bit like that! He's probably worrying about you...some people are just naturally slim arent they.

Coogee- lol I guess not ! Grin

Colourmeclear · 13/06/2021 13:14

I think you will also need to consider whether you are eating enough and have energy, feel well in yourself etc. BMI is one measure of health but it is also flawed in some respects.

tropicalwaterdiver · 13/06/2021 16:25

OP, he probably brought the subject cause he worries about you. And probably your weight loss was visible.
When I lost too much weight people asked behind my back if I was seriously sick.
You can start with BMI and also you can measure your fat as body composition gives more accuratd picture. Healthy woman should have 13-25%.

me4real · 13/06/2021 17:20

@Weight000 You'll need a pound for the scales etc BTW.

Weight000 · 13/06/2021 19:37

Thanks for all of your replies. I will go to Boots and do my BMI.
