Long term single

I’ve been single for 5 years since I’ve broken up with my ex, due to circumstances it’s unlikely I will ever meet anyone until my kids have grown up and moved out, has anyone else decided to stay single until their children are adults? Most people seem to jump back into relationships very quickly and I feel a bit unusual so wondered if anyone else is the same?

I think this is better for all parties to be honest, although I can imagine it gets lonely.

I love being single! My dc are 14, 12, and 6. I'm not sure I'd seek a relationship once they are grown as I am happiest single. I don't really have friends either but don't get lonely. You do what is best for you and your situation.

I've decided to live just me and the kids until they leave home (and possibly forever).

I do have a boyfriend but we only see each other once a week or so and our lives are not entwined. I don't really want to "cross the streams" Grin and don't want to inflict a stepdad on my kids, as in my own childhood I never got on with my stepdad. And I just enjoy the dating side - he's supportive emotionally and we have fun, we're just not on the relationship escalator as such. He does his own thing and I do mine.

Plan on staying single forever. If I get lonely when kids have moved out I may rethink it but honestly can't see that happening, I have never found relationships worth the hassle. People do seem to find it unusual but if it works for you it's no one else's business.

Well, i’m past long term single, i’m a lifer, never been in a relationship.

Not of my own will, so i'm not (yet) one these amazing women who are happy single.
So i’m more of an working process to become the one who chooses to be single.
(I don’t have kids though).

It does seem unusual doesn’t it, everywhere I turn people are back in relationships after only breaking up a few months weeks ago! I don’t really know how they do it, I get a lot of comments from friends/family about “meeting someone” but I honestly can’t see it happening for a very very long time! If ever again!

@YouShouldLeave can I ask why you believe you've always been single if it's not too painful of course.

OP I think another relationship can work so long as your children know they come first. Alternatively you fill your life with things for you and the children and friends.

Single ten years plus here and love it.

Bar my dcs and my work I don't have to compromise at all. It's honestly the happiest I've ever been.

I think more women would benefit from being single. One look at the relationship boards here confirms that. Sadly society stills sells the lie that a bad relationship is better than no relationship 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yep same here! I plan on staying single until my kids are grown, if not longer. I have been single for two years after my husband had an affair and left me for OW and moved straight in with her, so I was slightly traumatised.
But I do actually really like being single, no drama, I have great friends, the kids are happy (now).
I have just booked a family holiday abroad next year for me and the kids which I was worried about but now I can't wait and plan on doing it every year now until they don't want to (if I can afford it)
I just can't be bothered really.Grin

Long story short: I’m am very sex repulsed, i don’t think i’m ever gonna be able to do it.

So, no one wants to date me.
It’s kind of my hands.

Possibilities of meeting someone who is okey without sex are apparently very slim.
