DP can't cope with pregnancy

In the last few weeks my DP has been aggressive (verbally) and constantly picking at me. I'm in the last few weeks of pregnancy and really didn' t expect this from him. When I asked why, his response was that it brings back bad memories of his first ds with his ex and I'd be better off alone. He's not left, but it feels like he just doesn't want to be with me and will. I'm panicking at potentially being a single mum and feeling so alone at a time I really need support. Could things get better once the baby is born?

I'm really sorry to hear this op, it sounds like your partner really needs help, maybe he needs counciling or something. My DH and I had a really stable relationship before the baby and in the first couple of months it got rocky because having a baby is hard and the lack of sleep and such makes things harder so I don't want to pretend the baby is a magical being that will make it better between you, I mean it might but it's doubtful.

Thanks, that's what i thought. I guess I'm clutching at anything at the moment.

Firstly congratulations on your little one.

Next, being a single mum is nothing to panic about. I've done it for the last 12 years and in some ways it's easier. You don't have to worry about someone else's grumbles while you cope with dc. Obviously, not what you want but every situation has pros and cons.

I think you both need support. Does he have a brother who has children, or a close friend? Someone who can help him with the longer term view.

Do you have a close female on standby who can come and help if you have a difficult birth or a csection, and your dp doesn't handle it well?

Good luck.
