How to find a good solicitor who specialises in divorce?

I’m getting closer to making a decision that I want to separate from DH but before I speak to him I want to get a reasonable idea of where I might stand financially from a legal point of view.

How on earth do you find a knowledgable, fair, understanding and efficient solicitor who specialises in divorce?

No close friends can help.

Have you used a solicitor for your conveyancing, will etc? If you are happy with them use their family team. Otherwise surely one of your friends has used solicitors for something and can recommend them as a firm? I met with my solicitor to give her the details of the divorce and I just got a really good feeling about her but she worked for a firm I already really rated for doing my other legal work.

Just look on the internet for one that does family law. They usually offer a free half hour so if you don't like them at that point move on until you do find one you have faith in.

Look online for reviews. I did that and found my solicitor. She's a woman and has 30+ years experience, worked a lot dealing with women and children and has been extremely knowledgable and fought my corner being a sahm and let me know the ins and outs of everything I had no idea about regarding that. Look for someone who has experience in what you're requiring or most worried about

Look at resolution.org.uk, you can search by area. Members of resolution look to practice collaborative law, instead of just racking up legal fees fighting over who gets the toaster.

Thanks all.

That gives me a good starting place. I don’t want to waste time or money so am keen to get the right person.
