Moving In Together

Considering moving in together after 5 months.. I have 1 DD at Uni (currently home) (19) & 1 DS co-parenting (15). Both great kids!

Other half has 1 DD (23) lives with Grandparent - Her Mother left last year an no relationship with her!! Another great kid!

The thing is... OH DD is not happy with her Dad moving 30 mins (max) away from her an prefers him to rent to stay close!!

I understand it's all change, none of us have ever been in this situation before and our futures look bright together 💕

Any suggestions to prevent anyone being unhappy?

We just want everyone to be happy ❤️

@RachelRaven 😂

Well, I'd set aside the wishes of a adult woman who can't cope with her dad moving half an hour away 🙄 but you yourself are being idiotic. Five months is a ludicrously short time within which to now decide to foist this man on your child.

But still his daughter and a daughter who's mother left her and she is now living with grandparents. Maybe she could do with some parental support since she's asked for it. I'd certainly put that person first in that circumstance, particularly since this relationship is in its infancy.

I think the whole thing is barking, but I don't know that a woman can 'leave' her adult daughter and, at 23, I think she should be able to cope with her dad moving half an hour away.

It's far too soon FGS - you have a teenager!

GettingItOutThere · 10/05/2021 13:41

your house? hes moving in with you then i guess?

5 months is far too early! let him rent a house locally and see how it goes, if its meant to be then it will work out.

Howshouldibehave · 10/05/2021 13:47

@RachelRaven

No one falls in love faster than a man who needs a place to stay.
Exactly!!

If he's only just getting divorced I'd suggest that he needs some time living on his own rather than jumping straight into another live-in relationship. No way would I be moving someone in after only 5 months of knowing someone. We took nearly 6 years to move in together! And yes my (now) husband did need somewhere to live when we first met but he bought a separate house until we were both ready for more commitment.

Listen to the advice you've been given - don't do it!

Taken them on board?

So you aren't going to move in with someone you barely know after all?

Hope not.

Your poor son.

Alfiemoon1 · 10/05/2021 14:51

Far to soon especially as you have a teenager and he’s only just getting divorced

Lan2020 · 10/05/2021 18:31

5 months does seem soon, however setting that aside (because it wasn't what you asked).

His daughter is 23 and you only plan on moving 30 mimutes away. It seems ridiculous to base your decision on her as she's an adult and presumably won't be living with her grandparents forever.

😂😂😂

Well I moved in with my partner after 3 months of dating.
We're now happily married years later.
So yeah it was right for us.
But we didn't have kids.
Listen to your gut not Mumsnet

When you have kids you don't have the luxury of listening to your gut
Amotherlife · 10/05/2021 20:33

Even when I was young and foolish and not necessarily looking to settle down, I knew that 5 months was too soon to really know someone. Just because it CAN work out for some, doesn't mean it WILL for you. How can you take the chance when 3 other people, one still a child, are involved?

As for the 23 yo who can't bear her dad to move 30 minutes away....... clearly she hasn't grown up yet. Does she know that many people commute more than 30 minutes on a daily basis?

You also use rather too many exclamation marks, which makes you sound like a teen yourself.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 10/05/2021 20:39

No, no, no. Too soon. Ridiculously hasty and stupid.

You had no kids so the decision to move in so soon was a gamble that only affected you two.

Not the case with OP. Hence why it would be ridiculously irresponsible to move her teen, into a home with someone she's been with for five months. So selfish.
