Husband doesn't think!!

Does anyone else have a husband that seems to live in cloud cuckoo land? So.... starting an Easter egg hunt for the neighbours and our kids in an hour, parents visiting tomorrow and also getting our children to play outside as much as possible whilst it's nice.
DH thinks (or rather doesn't think) it's a perfect time to put fertiliser down all over the front lawn. Easter egg hunt now cannot include front lawn and parents will need to supervise children entering garden to make sure they don't step on fertilised lawn instead of letting them run free.
Luckily I managed to stop DH before he proceeded to put the fertiliser all over the back garden.
I'm so cross.... why doesn't my husband think about what he's doing?? He was so thoughtless and I'm fuming. I literally can't believe he was going to put fertiliser all over the entire garden over the Easter weekend. It's not pet or child friendly but obviously he didn't bother to read the warnings all over the packaging.
We always argue about how he is missing the 'health and safety' part to parenting. Other then that, he's a super father.
Anyone else going nuts over similar lack of consideration?

Yes... I feel your frustration!
It's like they are following their own agenda without consideration of what/who is around them. Mine had the very good idea to take the front door off and start sanding it down removing all the draft stoppers and the inbuilt mailbox ..beginning of December. We are now in March with a half sanded door which has been sucking on all the rain all throughout winter, with a towel shoved in the mailbox hole to block the cold out. It's been freezing cold and cost us so much in heating... It may not sound much but when you add up all of the little inconsideration it's enough to send you through the roof at times!

Mine has his own agenda as well.
Generally weed killer.
No thought to what else has been planned for the use of the garden that day.
What did he say when you confronted him?

Okbussitout · 04/04/2021 07:32

Wow he sounds pretty selfish. Is he actually a great dad though if he's this out of the loop?

AmyLou100 · 04/04/2021 07:36

No he just sounds really stupid and selfish. I would be furious at this. He is a grown man but his brains are like a 3 year old. Actually my 5yo has more common sense. Do you think he wanted to intentionally spoil the weekend, because I can't understand why else he would do this.

SunnySideUp2020 · 04/04/2021 07:40

Lots of men are like this unfortunately.
I don't think it comes from a bad place for most. He probably even thought to himself he is getting a job done.
They are just mentally lazy and uanware/not interested in stuff around them... in that case the kids easter egg hunt.
It is selfishness in itself but i wouldn't say it's intentional!
I'd be fuming too though. Just tell him to let you know next time he decides to start something potentially disruptive.

That's the sort of shit my exh would pull to stop me/ dc having fun and either taking the attention off him or doing something he didn't want us to do. All under the guise of 'oh silly me I didn't realise'

Maybe he didn't want the kids and family found, rather than actually having an adult conversation with you he does this instead?

millenialblush · 04/04/2021 07:47

I think many men compartmentalise to a point where they become selfish. He thought 'I need to fertilise the lawn so I will.' Where a woman (or slightly more emotionally connected man) would think 'I need to fertilise the lawn, but when would be the best time based on what else is going on right now?'. I've had to tell my own DH not to use the jet wash/drill/sander at 8am on a sunday morning in the garden, he seems surprised when he realises it may wake people up.
