Counselling

Hi

I've just had a free counselling session. I feel better after it. However, I'm not sure I liked hearing the counsellor typing away making notes.

I mentioned a family member. Could they involve authorities if they feel the family member is at risk (not from me). I didn't give out information - names etc about them. Thanks

That sounds very odd. Generally therapy is normally a course with a set aim. Was the session to just discuss if you wanted counselling?

Typing during a session is not normal.

The counsellor should have explained to you that they need to report any safeguarding concerns they had about you or others.

Hi. Yes it was initial session and it was explained to me that it would be confidential unless I was thought to be at risk. Nothing was said about anyone else at risk.

With phone counselling typing does happen as not all counsellors handwrite notes. Not ideal if it's clackety clack rather than discreet....
Pretty sure that they can't act on hearsay about another person unless you're directly involved .

They can disclose to the police if they think there is a risk of harm to another eg a child in danger, or an adult who is at risk of killing themselves currently. It’s usually very rarely done, and would usually tell you that they were going to do it.
