Been asked on a date!

Yesterday I got a message from an old co-worker of mine who had moved further up the country, he asked me how I was and said he was back in our city, and after some flirting both ways, he asked me out for dinner once lockdown is over.

I then messaged back saying yes, and sent a couple other messages which he then didn’t reply to
So I sent one more with my number and said it’s there if you want to talk, he then responded “awesome thank you”

It’s so lovely to be asked on a date and I always did like this man when we worked together, so it’s lovely to think of something to look forward to, I just can’t shake the feeling I’ve over texted as I haven’t heard from him since giving my number. I was just so nervous and giddy after he had asked 😂 I hope I haven’t ruined it

I just don’t understand why he’d strike up a conversation to ask me out and then not talk to me for days :/

You need to be a little less keen op. Don’t have him thinking he can click his fingers and you jump to attention. Don’t respond immediately if he messages.
It seems like he’s treating you as an option at the moment, someone he has in his back pocket just incase

MamaOl93 · 14/02/2021 11:21

@sunnydays78 if he does message me and I am his option, do I just not respond? I’m so done with shit like that. I’m better than that.

I think at this point if he messaged me I wouldn’t respond quickly and when I did respond I’d keep it friendly but I definitely wouldn’t be the one trying to move things forward.
If he was really interested in you, he would have jumped on the suggestion of a walk and you wouldn’t be questioning any of this.
Some guys like knowing there’s someone there if they want it. I wouldn’t settle! Him not responding for days to a message is just rude.

JustAnotherOldMan · 14/02/2021 11:27

I have generally found that women are more conversational then us men, we tend to give closed answers not open.
But it does sound like he is checking the waters abit with you, try and play it cool a bit too

MamaOl93 · 14/02/2021 11:29

Thank you @sunnydays78. I’m happily single but also don’t like getting messed around! Men 🙄

@JustAnotherOldMan testing the waters?

seensome · 14/02/2021 11:45

I wouldn't talk to him anymore, he's not keen enough.

Tanfastic · 14/02/2021 11:50

Personally I'd just leave it now if it were me, I really used to hate this shit when I was dating. In my experience if a man is keen he responds, he doesn't leave it days....

MamaOl93 · 14/02/2021 12:04

Thanks all. X

JustAnotherOldMan · 14/02/2021 12:28

Yes, testing the waters a bit.
A some point there must have been a bit of a connection, or he wouldnt have messaged you so he’s checking to see if it’s still there,

bloodyhairy · 14/02/2021 12:32

Ball's in his court now, OP. Please don't message again!

MamaOl93 · 14/02/2021 12:35

@JustAnotherOldMan agreed on that we did have a connection and in the conversation he started with me to ask me out, he did say we “seemed to remember we got on pretty well” and wanted to see what happened... it’s the few days he’s now ignored me for that has me confused from that?

OP posts:
MamaOl93 · 14/02/2021 12:36

@bloodyhairy nope, I last messaged Wednesday night he didn’t reply and I didn’t text again x

Honeyroar · 14/02/2021 12:38

It does sound pretty weird on his part. Why bother to message and ask you out if he can’t even strike up a little conversation in the meantime? You’re not asking for hearts and flowers every day, just a few replies and to arrange a walk.

MamaOl93 · 14/02/2021 12:45

@Honeyroar yep 😬 he did message me on my birthday but nothing since, just been left on read. He did say he couldn’t meet up this week because he was super busy so when he said about next week I gave dates then no follow up.. next day birthday message, and nothing since. X

Oh sorry didn’t see the comments about messages bit( not got my glasses on ),
That is bit odd, if someone of my age gets an interest from any female, I’d certainly reply, but you can’t 2nd guess other folk, sorry

MamaOl93 · 14/02/2021 12:57

@JustAnotherOldMan thanks anyway!

bloodyhairy · 14/02/2021 13:04

It could be that he'd like to see you after lockdown, but isn't interested in a lengthy period of messaging beforehand. That's fair enough I think, but he should at least explain that to you x

MamaOl93 · 14/02/2021 13:07

@bloodyhairy true and if that is the case then yeah he should explain that... mehhh haha xx
