Escaping abuse

DP is abusive. It look me a long time to realise, but I now genuinely feel that he can and will harm me. The final straw was discovering he’s barricaded some of the windows in the house shut, god knows why but my life is becoming more and more restrictive by the day and I need to leave with DD (2)

I’m a SAHM and don’t have access to any money - we have separate accounts. Just really want practical advice on how to escape ASAP. Tried applying for universal credit but as I don’t currently have any housing costs such as we live in his house, I don’t know if they’ll allocate some money for rent elsewhere or not? Please help

Contact Women's Aid or your local council may have a helpline for women escaping abuse.

Look on rightmove and find out what a 2 bed property in your area would cost. Use this as your baseline housing cost for a UC claim.

Don't do anything rash, and of course, don't let him find out what you're planning. Go carefully and make certain that you are safe.
