Therapy during Covid.

I know this sounds like a stupid question but I’m thinking of having some psychotherapy but would only really want it in person, rather than virtual, zoom etc. I’ll have to wait until end of lockdown?

It's definitely not a stupid question, and one that lots of people are wondering about at the moment. Some therapists/ counsellors are still seeing clients in person as well as online or by telephone. Extra care has to be taken such as sitting apart, ventilation in the room, hand washing and sanitising plus most are now wearing masks throughout sessions too. It's not ideal but it is better than not being able to see people in real life at all. Counsellors in private practice are more likely to be working if they have offices rather than working from home. It's worth starting a search in your area. Good luck x

I would speak to the psychotherapist and ask them what they are doing. I started therapy at the end of lockdown 1. We started in person and did socially distanced sessions outdoors to start, but she was also happy to do socially distanced sessions in her office. The outdoor sessions were my personal choice. We sat far enough apart and used hand santiser and hand washing and she kept the door/windows open when possible and turned on the heating. She offered the option to wear masks if I preferred, but I preferred to just be socially distanced and forgo masks, which she was fine with given she had risk assessed it. She just asked that I obviously cancel if I had any symptoms or contact with anyone with symptoms, and she did the same.

All proper therapists will have done a COVID risk assessment and will have COVID secure measures in place. Many are offering remote sessions too (if you prefer), but I found that doing in person sessions was best and it was no trouble to arrange. But I imagine each therapist will be operating differently, so I'd just ask. Mine worked from an office at the bottom of her garden, so not in a big office building and no other staff there. I felt very comfortable with that.

Thank you for your helpful posts. I did regret posting it almost immediately as I thought I looked very stupid, even though no one knows me here (Jesus, sensitive!), so thank you also Magic for reassuring me.
