NO MORE THAN £50k.

Really, NO MORE than that.

If your solicitor are asking for more, sack them.

Well that depends on the amount of time the solicitor has to spend on the matter. I'm not a family lawyer, so I can't really answer, but I do have plenty of clients who end up paying fees that they have unnecessarily accrued, despite me encouraging and advising them not to.

Silly post, as it all depends on so many factors.
Most people won’t spend 50K, as most don’t have this amount to throw away.
Others who do have the money - may spend that or even more. But they might be fighting over a larger pot of money.

Solicitors can be a huge money drain. The way the industry is setup and charges clients encourages it. And it does prey on people in vulnerable situations. But often there isn’t much choice and people aren’t well informed.

Good luck to you, OP. Divorces are messy but everything passes.

I would say no more than £30k.

Represent yourself out of court to keep costs down. If you are comfortable dealing with paperwork and officials you'll be fine. Don't even bother trying to negotiate just apply to go straight to a financial hearing. Hire a direct access barrister to represent you in court. The judge will absolutely be fair.

If you have a narked ex it could unnecessarily run into thousands of pounds and be out of your control.

Bluntness100 · 13/01/2021 10:34

What an odd post, some folks are always on the bloody phone to their solicitor, racking up costs, going back to court time and time again, arguing over small shit, refusing to agree, wanting the most expensive barristers.

sosickofthisshit · 13/01/2021 10:35

Mine so far has cost £20k and rising, because my exh is an absolute arsehole who is incapable of being reasonable about anything.

StephenBelafonte · 13/01/2021 10:43

@sosickofthisshit that's why I say don't even bother trying to negotiate with arseholes just go straight to court honestly the judge will be fair
