STD in bad relationship

Found out that I have contracted HSV-1 (genital herpes) from him, my long-term boyfriend. I’m devastated. I’d like to move on from this relationship. I feel disgusting, like no one else will ever want me. He’s done a lot to already make me feel that way. Is it true? Does anyone have experience with this? Will everyone just steer clear of me in the future?

HSV1 is typically from the mouth, he wouldnt have had to have an active lesion there to spread it as the virus can shed with no symptoms. It is also more common than you realise. It has a stigma because its below the belt but we dont judge people because of a cold sore so why would be because its somewhere else? I wouldnt.

Have you been offered treatment?

Sending you massive hugs. x

@lobsterkiller

Thank you for saying that and for the hugs. I have been offered treatment, I plan on going on medication for it.

My friend did it gave her confidence back. They say hsv1 is harder to pass on if its below. please go easy on yourself, you will be in shock. You will still be you, nothings changed.

Two thirds of the world population are infected with HSV1. You'll find people telling you it's a big deal, but chances are they have it too and they don't know it. Most likely you won't have outbreaks, but they can be controlled with acyclovir. Ask your doctor about it.
If you get pregnant tell your dr about it. Other than that, don't worry. It won't kill you, it won't make your life shorter, in most cases it will only bother you occasionally, and very little. It won't stop you from having relationships. You'll have a normal life. The majority of people are in the same situation as you :)

I have it, not sure who from but it was over 10 years ago. I have had one bad breakout (when I discovered I had it) and maybe one much less severe since. The nurse who prescribed me medication for it told me she had it too, I was really quite distressed. Honestly, it has barely affected me and it's very common. Flowers
