Going back to maiden name or even a completely new one?

I'm in the very early stages of separation and divorce, but I'm already thinking about my name. I regretted changing it even before all this. Add in years of abuse and I am desperate to get rid of his name.

We have 2 dc, so that will be a consideration, but assuming they are OK with it, I want to go back to my maiden name or even change it to something completely different.

Has anyone changed their name (by deed poll) to something other than their maiden name after divorce?

My friend did. She changed it to a name she liked! Dead easy.

Not personally but a friend of mine used her mums maiden name since she got divorced, think she just did it by deed poll

I went back to my maiden name but I had to do it by deed poll as I I didn't want to wait to be divorced and some places wouldn't accept the change.

I'm happy to do deed poll. I was thinking of my Gran's maiden name. Cos I like it and she was awesome (and certainly wouldn't have tolerated my stbxh).

I've read some women taking famous feminist surnames too but wondered if that was just something you read about, rather than happens in reality.

Ooh hypothetically I would change mine to my paternal Grandmas surname (she never married) as it’s a nice easy name and she was an amazing woman

If you’re going to choose a new surname you’d better make it awesome - I’ve always fancied Longshanks
