Hello! So my colleagues mum passed away. I wanted to send her something - NOT flowers as I'll bet she has loads of them right now. (Who can take care of flowers when you have so many things to take care of!)

Ideas please!?

Just a card or letter. It's not really an occasion for gifts. Although flowers in a week or two would be nice.

The best thing I got when I was bereaved was one of those fruit bouquets. I couldn’t eat anything really and I could just grab a piece of fruit from that. I really appreciated that. Or a meal that can be easily frozen/reheated.

For a colleague flowers are fine but send ones in a vase to save them having to faff when they arrive.

When a loved one of mine died people baked for me. (Or they brought nice locally made fancy boxes of cake.) I got alot of cake. I tried to share them but people would insist I take them home for the family. We always had cake to offer people who called round. People can be very kind. A collegue as just lost a sibling. I will be baking for her when she comes back to work.

As above think about a vase. The lady from our local charity shop sent round several vases because she knew we would have more flowers than vases. They were donated back afterwards. We were very touched by the thought.
