As above. Losing patience with dh here...

If there isn't, there should be! Feel free to rant away.
The gear, the turbo trainer, the strava obsession... it's relentless!

bunnyonthemantle · 20/09/2020 19:42

@truebeliever are you married to my husband? He spent like a grand on a turbo trainer in April and last month it was three grand on a new bike which we now have stuck in the space I use for tutoring. I moved it and put it outside whilst my tutor sessions were going on and we had an epic mood because I supposedly scratched itHmm Today he has been out since 1pm cycling followed by post ride drinks. Rolled in at 7pm. My dd has been asking for him since 5 to show him her artwork. I'm 30 weeks pregnant. I bloody hope he's going to be home a bit more when baby comes.

You’ll find them in the divorce section...

SilverLake · 20/09/2020 19:45

going for a ride at 1pm sounds odd. normally cyclists go out early to miss the traffic.

truebeliever · 20/09/2020 19:46

@bunnyonthemantle that sounds really tough. He should definitely be thinking about cutting back with the baby on the way and be around more to give you more support.

DiscoInFurlough · 20/09/2020 19:48

Not suffering myself, luckily DP is more a cricket bore but... how do you ladies put up with the lycra?
Do men think its a good look? Sad

MsTSwift · 20/09/2020 19:49

My wife hates getting stuck behind cyclists when driving on the roads around Surrey.I really worry about her bouncing up and down so annoyed with the lycra clad bikers that she can't get past especially when a group of five has the last one in the middle of the road to protect the others .I regularly see the thousands of pounds worth of bikes doing about 25 mph maybe more. But it doesn't worry me I think good luck to them having fun and getting fit in the process. What worries me are the Dads in full gear with there sons or daughters in replica gear on little race bikes following close behind there Dads in busy traffic..how dangerous is that.

bunnyonthemantle · 20/09/2020 20:07

@SilverLake it's because we have my stepchild (his dc) until midday so he can't leave until then. Weekends when we don't have sks he goes out at the crack of dawn.

I don’t understand why they go out for so long! Isn’t cycling on your own boring? I do mine on a bike in front of the TV. At least that’s interesting. I must be missing something. So they spend hours staring at somebody else’s backside? It’s not like they’re having a lovely pedal along the seaside having a chat. I’m just failing to understand the attraction. I just don’t get it and I like cycling.

Legallyblondeee · 21/09/2020 08:13

I’ve found my people! DH is relentless with telling me Every. Single. Detail. Of his “strava goals” apparently he’s a local legend. voms in mouth

bunnyonthemantle · 21/09/2020 09:09

@Legallyblondeee we've gone beyond strava. Dh has identified a shop for sale on a popular cycle route that he is convinced would make a killing as a coffee shop. The future is cycling here!

Well the tour is over for this year!

DH follows an intensive training plan, and any occasional weekend day trips are planned around “rest days”. Foreign trips seem coincide with the cycling calendar (lets go to Compiegne (start of Paris-Roubaix), or how about a trip to Paris (last stage of the Tour), or I hear Belgium is nice in the spring (etc. etc.)

MsTSwift · 21/09/2020 09:35

Don’t worry there is still the Giro and Vuelta to watch 😁

Tbh I am fine with it as dh is a decent man and careful not to take the piss pulls his weight bought me a posh bike etc . Plus it means my credit bank of trips away is very high I can go off to girls weekends without a shred of guilt.

MsTSwift · 21/09/2020 09:37

Although once when they were younger dd2 asked me “why do you never let daddy come in the car with us” which was amusing 😁 as if we go anywhere he pretty much always cycles there!

Panicwiththebisto · 21/09/2020 10:24

My friend was also a cycling widow but she recently bought an e-bike so she can keep up with her DH on hill climbs Grin

Wherearemymarbles · 21/09/2020 10:48

I dont get it all. I cycle to work and have been for 20 years but I’ve never done for fun!
I did row on my early 20’s and that really would make a widow of someone!

EarthSight · 21/09/2020 17:48

Depends where you live. There is a killer road that winds it's way into a national park here, full of speeding maniacs, s-bends and u-bends. There are cyclists on it all the time. It's so dangerous. I think they're all mad.
Livandme · 21/09/2020 17:53

If you can't beat them, join them (+ then beat them)
They don't like that. At all.
