The effect of trauma/ptsd on a teenager inflicted by the primary caregiver

I really need some info or insight on the above.

I need to know if it’s possible that a severe psychological and physical trauma at the age of 18 would cause lifelong issues-is the brain still developing at 18 or is it fully developed?

I’m not sure this is the correct area to ask this but because a parent was the cause I thought it would come under relationships?
Is it possible something could damage a nearly developed mind and cause what I can only describe as some kind of ‘wrong connection’ resulting in the person (me) having significant difficulties and issues for life ?
Is there any kind of therapy that can untangle this sort of thing and undo it or if the brain isn’t developed and something so traumatic happens is it just ruined ?

You aren’t ruined - you have a far better chance of overcoming something you experienced at 18 than something you experienced as child. You will need to put some work in but I promise it’ll be worth it.

Please seek out a therapist who is specially trained in trauma - most private therapists work on a sliding payment scale of £30-60 ish an hour and lots are doing online sessions now.

I used to think therapy was a load of old bobbins but it really is worth doing (don’t hesitate in changing therapists until you find one you like - that’s the good thing about paying for it).

It is so worth making that investment in YOU.

Trauma can have lasting effects at any age, including your teens. Traumatic relationships can cause complex PTSD, anxiety, depression etc MIND have a good page on cPTSD. Therapy can work wonders if you can build a safe and therapeutic relationship particular if that has been lacking in your life.
