What an earth has caused this pain in my tailbone

For four months now I've had mild irritation in my coccyx area (have I spelt this right?)

It hurts some days more than others. It doesn't hurt when I walk. It hurts when I sit/lie down. Some days its more angry.

When I poke the very bottom bone it's really bruised. But I've not had any trauma
So I'm presuming those early weeks of lockdown when we couldn't really go out I sat down too much?

I've looked at the donut cushions and they are pricey and I'm currently skint.

Any advice. I've not mentioned it to the drs because I feel like a hypocondriact. I have been contacting them quite abit this year for

Period issues
Low iron
Low vitamin D
Trying pills.

Last week I called because I was feeling particularly anxious. Feel loads better this week but it comes and goes.

Anyone had this?

Yes sounds like a pilonidal sinus. Someone else has posted recently about this in the health section, I replied as I have had one for about 25 years

Could be the pilonoidal sinus, could be a trapped nerve, could be a pressure injury developing. It is relevant to ask about other health issues as well. Are you overweight, do you have a history of type 1 or type 2 diabetes? I think you definitely need to get this checked, as it sounds excruciating and it could potentially lead to infection.

Look up coccydynia, not sure if you have children but it can be caused by childbirth.

On a practical note you could place two pillows with a gap between them if you don't want to buy an expensive cushion, I was advised to do this after giving birth.

Pilonidal(?) cyst.

I always used to get them.

They aren't visible and you won't feel it with your hand, it'll just be really painful at the end of the coccyx

Pilonidal sinus or sacroiliac joint pain ( post birth - the ligament softens during pregnancy and the joint becomes unstable) it’s the same as SPD but at the back of the pelvis.
When you sit or squat for any length of time the joint separates and makes it difficult to stand up.

I have a similar pain.... usually if I sit on a hard surface, it's really painful as I stand up straight.....
Mine started after whooshing off the end of a slide at a soft play though.... saying that, that was back in January! Maybe I should get it checked! Kind of assumed I'd bruised it and it would eventually be ok 😬

Sorry I know this is an old thread, but just wondering what the outcome was on this as I’m going through the exact situation with no end in sight 😞

I had this. Turned out to be chronic inflammation caused by a reaction to the materials used in my birth control. When the thing was removed, the tailbone pain went away and my hair stopped falling out.

I have this right now!! I've had severe pain in my coccyx for the last 2-3 years and never had any trauma to cause it either. It doesn't hurt to walk but it's agony when I sit in a certain position or sit still for too long. Usually on hard chair or when driving long distances. Never seen a gp about it as like you OP I'm already being treated for other ailments Grin but now I'm thinking I may need to mention it. I don't particularly want any surgery but I'm guessing it isn't good if you have a cyst and you just leave it??

Did this ever resolve for you x
