Was my friend taking advantage of me?

A few months ago we had a brief falling out, because she doesn't drive and asked me for a lift which I couldn't manage. It was not particularly important, although possibly to her. Was to get a friends child's bike fixed which her child had broken. Previously I would give her lifts no problem, but I now work full time and it's difficult. I had my own plans for the weekend which she said weren't important...I felt this to be offensive as it's my time and not hers to judge.
However, she apologised a few days later, said she valued my friendship and was going in a taxi.
Yet now she's fallen out with me again...
This time it was 6pm and I was just on way home from work and had family plans for the evening.
She said her drug addict brother needed help as he had checked himself out of a mental hospital and needed picking up, she was begging.
I said I couldn't and she told me not to bother with her again as I'm no friend.
I have helped her in the past and I feel now she is taking advantage of me. I am currently trying to stop being such a walkover so am enforcing my boundaries.
Have I been too harsh? I feel she must see me as a bit of a mug and I told her so but got no reply.
I feel like friendship shouldn't be transactional but not sure if I'm right here.
What do you think?

Tell her to fuck off.

And her parasite drug using brother.

Block her ass and never let oxygen thieves like that ever back into your life. She is a fucking user, just like her drug-using brother.

It's clear that the latest drama re: her brother was very serious for her. Unfortunately it's for her to sort out if that's what she wants to do - not pile the responsibility on to you.
Sounds like she is in a sorry situation.

It also sounds like this friendship is more hassle than it's worth for you & best to give her a wide birth for now. You didn't feel inclined to help out in a her family crisis, which is what it is. So just step away & leave it now.

She's a user. At 37 she isn't likely to change. Be glad you're rid of taking free taxi bookings!

I think it's ok to ask a friend for a favour. If the friend says no, that's fine too. What's not fine is making a habit of it and assuming the friend will say yes. I rarely ask friends for favours and if I do I make it clear they won't be out of pocket - things like driving you somewhere or pet-sitting, there is a going rate for these. As for screaming at you for saying no, end of friendship as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for all your points of view. Will just leave her to it, definitely the friendship is more hassle than it's worth. Seems a shame but not much I can do about it now.

She's taking advantage. However, regardless of that, we are meant to be social distancing, so you shouldn't be picking her brother up or dropping a bike off somewhere!

vikingwife · 23/07/2020 03:39

If you decide to not learn to drive then you need to be prepared in the event of emergencies. You’re not a taxi service. She sounds entitled & a user, I would block this person & get on with my life without them. She sounds like a loser tbh (and I am a pothead “druggie”)

quirkybird3 · 23/07/2020 03:55

Yeah she is entitled I think, shown her true colours by her nasty reaction to being refused.
There was nothing stopping them from getting a taxi, I suspect it was a free lift she wanted.

That's exactly what she wanted. A free lift. Any time you've brought her anywhere in the past, has she ever even offered to pay you for petrol??

SeaState3 · 23/07/2020 07:43

Change her name in your phone to “quirky taxi service”
