Verbal abuse - is it domestic abuse and would the police ever get involved?

The pubs are opening soon Sadand my husband has form for coming home drunk and giving me horrible verbal abuse, loudly. We are divorcing, but we are still in the same house. I intend to stay out of his way when he has been drinking, but if I can’t, and he won’t stop, what’s the best thing for me to do?

You could certainly dial 999 if he's intimidating or threatening you OP.

In an abusive relationship, abuse tends to escalate when you leave. Get a lock for your door and keep away from him if he's drunk. If he tries to get past the lock, dial 999.

It would fall under intimidation.
And most certainly the police would get involved if they were called. It is possible, especially now that you are due to leave that he could escalate it to violence. It really isn't a big step away from the bullying behaviour he already displays.

Agree with pp. Get a lock in your door. Keep your phone with you and charged at all times and if ever you feel ar risk, call the police asap.

But the sooner you can leave, the better.

Yes they absolutely would get involved. Please don't be afraid to call.

The pubs reopening is a real worry.

And yes, I’ll call them if he won’t stop. I’ve recorded him before too.
