I don't know how to make new friends

Hi everyone

I found this article on Facebook and it's as if I wrote it myself.

www.familiesonline.co.uk/blog/im-a-mum-and-i-have-no-friends

I have only one good friend. I'm a mum to a three years old and work part time. I have a few people I know but can't say they are my friends just people I know.

I'd like to have a group of friends but I don't. I seem to have trust issues as I've been hurt several times and even when I make an effort to connect with my son's friends parents we don't seem to click.

I live in the UK but originally from a different European country therefore all my childhood friends are not in the Uk.

I may not be the type people wants to be friends with. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Are there other people like me?

Thank you.

I think you'll find lots of people feel friendless. Especially at the moment!

I lived abroad for 4 years and realised at the end I'd only made one actual friend when she got a boyfriend. Suddenly it was her and him, and I was on the outside. Came as a shock because I'm a very outgoing person who'll talk to anyone.

Often I feel that people try to create friendships with people that are not their 'tribe' because those people as easily accessible. Like you with the other parents - you don't click with them. They are not your tribe. And then feel rejected and presume it's them so don't try again. Your trust issues will make this sense of rejection even worse.

Try and find your tribe. Join a group that has the same interests. Start a new hobby. Look further afield than your child's friends parents. Take it one new friend at a time, rather than hoping to create an instantaneous group.
