Emergency court order. Has anyone in here done one without using a solicitor/barrister?

Just that really. It has been suggested at a conference between barrister and solicitor. However that alone cost me £2k, and I can't really spare the extra for the court order.

The forms are in the government website and I have quite a bit of evidence so I'm wondering whether to try myself? No idea of legal costs but I'm guessing another £7k or so??? Maybe more
I'm not eligible for Legal Aid, though my income is under £15k pa.

What are you applying for? Yes apply yourself, you may be exempt from the court fee too if you’re on a lower income

Yes you can do it yourself if it's a non mol and/or occupation order you're applying for. I havent done one for myself but did them as a solicitor. You can just complete the paperwork and the court will give you a date-used to be the same day and you went in with the paperwork. Are you safe?
If there is a criminal case as well you should be protected by bail conditions and the prosecutor should ask for a restraining order.

It's a domestic violence case, well emotional and verbal abuse
OH wants to keep DS and I want to go for shared parenting
He is being very unreasonable (in my opinion and is very manipulative of DS - telling him I am incapable etc)
Court order is so that I can find a new home and take DS with me and make contact arrangements for his dad

I know it would be better with the solicitor and barrister but it will be so expensive.
I have GP records/tapes of verbal abuse and contact with social services so there is quite a bit I can put together.
I am also going to contact the freedom programme (?) to see if they can help me. I'm not sure

It's for child arrangements

I think it's Women's Aid you want. Though, from what I hear, contacting them isn't always easy.

Can you have a telephone consultation with your solicitor to check that you are doing it right?

[As far as I know the Freedom Programme is just an online programme to help abused women gain insight into abuse and help them get strong enough to leave their abusers, though there are some real life support groups as well.]

Maybe also post in Legal Matters?

Ok, I am afraid I am not up to date with custody but can I ask why you dont apply for an occupation order and a non mol/restraining order. If you ask for this then the non mol can specify no contact save for a named person doing pick up/drop off at an appointed time. If you've nowhere to go yet then a shared custody arrangement in advance of that seems unnecessary if you're in the same house.

I'm moving out to a rented property as the house we jointly own is in the process of being renovated (by OH) and will then sell hopefully
It is a messy situation.
He is demanding I leave DS with him and he visits when he likes (but refuses to draw anything official up). I feel DS would be better with me. OH does not realise I am going to try and get a court order
