Female hormone help

Female hormone help... my mood seems to really dip the week before I'm due my period but its beyond a joke now.
It started last year and I tried the mini pill, but while that helped I was then bleeding around 20 days out of 30, so I stopped it. It's taken a few months to work out my system but the mood swings were back in full force this month. I've tried to get an appointment with my gp but apparently they are too busy and I've to try again in a month. In the mean time does anyone have any insight that might help? I have still got some of the mini pill left, and am considering taking one every 3 days or something but I also realise this might not be the most sensible thing.

I’ve heard that evening primrose oil can help, and some people have had low level anti-depressants prescribed.

If you do a search specifically on MN you will find something. I’m sorry I can’t be more help!

I have sertaline for this. I take it all month, and it has helped me with the preperiod mood swings, I can still get a bit low or reactionary but nothing like I used to be.

Hi OP, your post is very timely for me as I'm really struggling too. Possibly perimenopausal which I've read makes things a whole lot worse. I currently take EPO, multivitamins and omega 3 and have just started Agnus Castus in a last ditch attempt before going to the Dr's.
I literally get 10/12 days a month of feeling 'normal', a couple of days post ovulation and it all goes downhill. Irritable, low and constantly tearful, you have my sympathies as it feels awful. I feel like a different person in the second half of my cycle.

Call your GP first thing in the morning and tell them you need an appointment TODAY. I hate gaming the system like this but the parlous state of the NHS makes it mandatory.

Your other option would be visiting your local sexual health clinic but really they will only be able to advise on the contraceptive side of things, rather than address the mood swings.

Also have a look at PMDD

You might have pmdd, i have it. There is a really useful Facebook group called U.K. pmdd support. It's like a lifeline for me and there is tons of info on there about treatments etc. I am now under consultant care but it hasn't been an easy journey convincing the GP. Good luck.

It really is like being two different people.

I'm going to get hold of some supplements tomorrow, magnesium, b6 and eveing primrose.

I much prefer my natural cycle and am not keen on the idea of contraception as a control method.

I will attempt the drs again but we cant call them anymore, it's all done by an online message system.
