To up my meds

First xmas without my kids, they'll be at their dad's and back with me boxing day, but it's really started to hit me today. I'm recently back on AD but thinking it might be worth me upping my dose (obviously with drs consent) to get me through.

I'm not sure the result will be as quick as that OP. Climbing doses is a long term strategy and often a dose change can cause symptoms to worsen in the initial stage. I don't think a GP would up them to 'get you through' as a sort of comfort blanket rather than as part of an already planned medical strategy as AD's are not a type of medicine that reap immediate benefit.

I think for your own sake it would be better to discuss this with your GP and be honest over why you are struggling, talk to friends and family, busy yourself on the day and focus on having your lovely DC back on boxing day.

Are you able to be with other family or friends on Christmas day itself?

Remember OP, samaritans etc are available throughout the xmas period if things are tough and you feel an urgent need for support or if you feel overwhelmed. If you havent already as part of your dealings with your GP you could self refer for talking therapy for the new year.

Flowers OP, it's hard and christmas can be tough, thinking of you.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so low OP. As with the PP I don't think your doctor will recommend upping your meds for a temporary situation which is purely caused by the date of your DC being away, assuming they go to ex regularly the rest of the year.

If you don't want to or can't go to family/friends on Xmas day, can you make a plan for stuff to do on the day? Preferably stuff that you can't easily get done when DC are around, or stuff that needs getting ready for the boxing day, e.g. making dessert like apple crumble, side dishes like red cabbage, etc.

If your place of employment is open on Xmas day then I'd consider taking a shift there, it can be very profitable and some colleagues may be eager to swap. (I used to work with someone who was happy to work my Xmas and Boxing day shifts as long as I covered his NYE and NYD shifts. Worked really well for both of us.)

I won't suggest volunteering on xmas day itself because it's a real irritation that some people go 364 days a year without giving a thought to the charity but then expect to drop in, untrained, on xmas day and get a lovely warm feeling that they are "spreading the xmas spirit". But you could usefully go through your cupboards/wardrobes and sort some donations out for food bank/charity shops.

Can you schedule a video call with your DC on the day?
