Affectionate words for men

Do you use affectionate words when you talk to your DH? Things like sweetheart, honey, love - they sound so natural when addressed to a girl/woman but to me they just sound a bit soppy when used in relation to a man. Almost a little inappropriate. What do you say? And if you are a man, what would you like to hear as a display of affection?

We both call each other babe, which I’ve always hated until I met him Grin. I did have to draw the line at BabeS though, he tried that 2-3 times and I had to stop it there and then.

Also boo boo, sweetheart and handsome. I also call him a cutesy version of his name (think My Billy Bear for William etc)

None of them are very manly though I guess. What would a manly endearment look like? Maybe King like SimonJT’s ex?!

I’m loving Sugarballs though, he has been known to call me Sugar tits or Tits McGee so I think more ball related names is the way forward Grin

Just sent him a text calling him Sugarballs, will see if it catches on Grin. Thanks for that one!

I call my OH teddy bear, or darling.

TemporaryPermanent · 06/10/2019 12:33

Mostly honey or hon. (NOT HUN) Occasionally sweetheart. I associate 'darling' with passive aggressive Margot Leadbetter style dialogue so tend to avoid.

katmarie · 06/10/2019 12:34

My DH is honey most of the time. I use his name if I'm mock telling him off, and I call him dearest sometimes, normally in a 'yes dearest' roll eyes, kind of way.

Ninkaninus · 06/10/2019 13:33

I don’t ever use his name except in conversation with someone else, or in birthday/valentines cards. It just sounds odd to address him by his name, like I’m being far too formal.

thisnamechanger · 06/10/2019 13:38

Poppet. Is funny because he's 6.1, stacked and covered in tats and piercings Grin

Ronnie27 · 06/10/2019 13:39

My love, babe, gorgeous. We’re gender neutral here. Grin

Tweetingmagpie · 06/10/2019 13:40

I don’t but I don’t use those kind of words for anyone! I suppose I say darling to my children sometimes but in general I’m not an affectionate term kind of person!

Tennesseewhiskey · 06/10/2019 13:40

@thisnamechanger dp is 6ft 4in, tattooed and usually has an ecoreaaion like grumpy cat. and I like to give cutesy names. The cuter the better.

Flower, my little flower petal, rose bud, fluffy etc Grin

Tweetingmagpie · 06/10/2019 13:40

Unused to know a couple where the woman used to call him pickle, sausage, honey, it made me feel a bit sick tbh Envy

Ronnie27 · 06/10/2019 13:42

My stepmother calls my father pickle or her little cabbage. I could do without that if I’m honest. Grin

Lllot5 · 06/10/2019 13:47

My ex was slim cos he’s a bit porky. And I was ug short for ugly.
I liked it. Not why he’s an ex.

KUGA · 06/10/2019 13:55

Hubby,love,git bag,perv boy,too many to put tbh.

Serenity45 · 06/10/2019 17:56

We go with a lighthearted insult here too...generally 'bum' for short, or a selection including

Bumface
Buttwad
Knobjockey
Poopants
Bumhole
Bumley
Mansacks
Fartknocker

Bit embarrassed reading them back now tbh! Blush
