Taking DCs on a date - bit weird isn't it?

So, this man (who I have discussed elsewhere on MN, so won't bore anyone with the back story) & I clearly like each other, keep bumping into each other but haven't yet got round to arranging a date.

Last night, I bumped into him in the street on the way to the pub & he ended up spending all evening with me (and very nice it was too). We talked about meeting up next Friday during the day & he suggested that we go somewhere with our kids (my DD 5, his DS 2) - which I have agreed to.

But now I think about it, isn't it a bit odd to go on a date with your kids? Do you think it's a test of some sort? Why not just invite me out for lunch?

Update no. 2:

Bumped into him again last night - he came back & had a cup of tea & we chatted til 2am.

We were talking about past relationships, & he said he's gone from one to the other & barely been single for 20 years. Eventually, I bit the bullet & asked whether he thought we were going to be friends or if something more might develop. He sort of fudged it a bit - talked about the horrible relationship he's just come out of, um-ed and ahh-ed a bit & started talking about Princess Diana (?wtf!). So I felt a bit of a doughnut.

This morning, I pop out to buy a newspaper & who should I see walking down the road towards me but him, again! He came into the newsagent with me & then walked me back to my house & hung round for a few minutes for a chat.

So, do we think that sounds hopeful, or not? Maybe he just wants to be friends?

I am far too impatient!

Hi Dior.

I really don't think he's shy - is used to public speaking, very honest in his journalism about himself and his "issues" etc. But I suppose that's not to say that he might not be a little awkward with the dating thing? The last relationship is only very recently over & was pretty grim, so I wonder if maybe he just wants to take a potential new one very very slowly and cautiously.

No kissing yet! But last Saturday we were huddled up on a bench under a blanket (it was chilly!)together in a friends back garden - he kept putting his hand onto mine & stroking my fingers & so on. All very sweet & chaste (more's the pity )

Thanks Dior, for indulging me & chatting about this. Not very exciting for anyone other than myself, I'm sure...!

I really haven't got a clue now. Men are such a confusing species. He says he will call or e-mail me re. going out for the evening later in the week (his DS & my DD are both away with our respective ex's this week), so we shall see what happens.

I think also that there have been a few women interested in him for quite shallow reasons (to do with status etc) & that might make him more reticent about getting involved until he knows someone very well. Maybe

Will do!

We've now spent 4 Saturday evenings together through chance meetings (chatting into the small hours), and spent the whole day in the park on Friday, so you are right, it really is time for someone to make a move. Will let you know...

Thanks for helping me to see it with a bit more clarity

Been too busy Rofling at the stainless steel fetish thread - have you seen it?

Had a chat to a friend earlier, who knows us both & has been there on several occassions that we've met. She is convinced that he is quite keen, & reminded me that he is 47 and very gentlemanly, & therefore probably not his style to jump into bed with someone he doesn't know very well. I suspect it's a slow burner TBH. All will become clear, and since you've been kind enough to take an interest Dior, you will be the first to know!

A 47-y-o gentleman with income. If things don't work out between you, would you kindly push him my way? Thanks a lot!
