When am I likely to get my period

Hello,

I’ve been on the pill for nearly a year now and I regularly get my period during my pill free week.

However, when I went on holiday I took noresterone to delay my period by two weeks.

As a result, my pill free week starts next week but I only had my period two weeks ago. When should I expect my period? Thanks

Why didn’t you just keep taking your pill with no break rather than taking noristerone?

Periods usually start within about 3 days of stopping that

I was thinking the same- why didn’t you just carry on taking your pill? Confused

You’ll get it whenever you normally do probably during your pill break. Basically you start bleeding in response to the withdrawal of hormones. It doesn’t matter what else you take. You could have just started your next pack though instead of taking anything extra.

Dr advised me not to take my pills back to back. Assumed he was correct given his job and training 🤔

I'm a GP. Like PP I cannot understand your doctor's advice. If you're already on the combined pill (ie the one you take for 21 days then have a 7 day break during which you get your period), you can just go straight onto the next pack if you want to miss a period. As for your question, usually you get a period a couple or a few days after stopping norethisterone, but if you've gone from norethisterone to your usual pill, I don't know, your bleeds might be a bit irregular for the next month. I don't like to criticise other drs without knowing the full picture but your doctor's advice doesn't make sense to me.

Oh sorry reread your post and realised you have had a period since stopping the norethisterone - is that right? So yeah, you should get your next period in your next pill free week (as periods on the pill are not 'natural' periods, they're really withdrawal bleeds from taking the break)

No, generally it would not be recommended to take the pills to stop your period and the birth control pill at the same time. Your GP should have known this. I'm surprised he even prescribed them, knowing you were on the pill. Most people (not me personally, but most people) take their pills back to back with no break and that's been the advice since at least when I was in uni (20 years ago). At any rate, your period should come as normal when you expect it at the end of your pills. If you only had a period 2 weeks ago though, it may be lighter than normal.
