If you don’t share a bed with your DH/DP....

What do you do on holiday?!

I’m trying to book a weekend away for my DP as a surprise but due to his terrible snoring and fidgeting we don’t usually share a bed at home and I struggle to sleep if we end up in a bed together when we’re away, even if it’s King size. I used to be ok with a King but I’ve got more used to my own space lately!

Abroad you often get two doubles side by side, but in the UK I struggle to find a hotel with decent bed set-up.

Can anyone recommend to me a lovely
Hotel somewhere in the UK (we’re Midlands so preferably not right at the extremities for a night or two!) which offers a decent bed set up or even two rooms in a suite type thing, so that I can treat him without losing sleep! TIA

Ps sorry it’s not exactly a relationship question but I figured it might fall under that more than travel.

What about an air BnB with 2 bedrooms?

ForGoodnessCake · 15/09/2019 18:50

Ear plugs

museumum · 15/09/2019 18:51

Surely just book a “twin” room?

CestTout · 15/09/2019 18:52

Hilton, DoubleTree and Hampton by Hilton have lots of hotels with two double beds. Alternatively if you need two rooms either book two rooms or consider a suite.

walkintheparc · 15/09/2019 18:52

I'd look for somewhere with adjoining rooms or an apartment with 2 bedrooms or sofa bed. Pick your location then call around hotels for first option, Airbnb for the second option. What kind of weekend do you want?

HazelE123 · 15/09/2019 18:53

Have you looked at Langley Castle? Two of the rooms are interconnecting and can be taken as a suite. Means paying for both rooms though! It's a fantastic place - really special. It's near Hadrian's Wall and Hexham. It's the Percy and Tindale rooms that are interconnecting. A spiral staircase up to one of them and the main staircase up to the other one with a door between. We had those two rooms.

They have a fantastic restaurant too so worth having dinner B&B. They do two night package deals sometimes.

Mrsmememe · 15/09/2019 18:55

I can’t get my head around a dirty weekend in separate beds. Sure, I guess there’s a degree of creativity but Hmm

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 15/09/2019 18:59

Quite a few hotels have rooms with two doubles, you obviously have to pay more, they will be the "superior" type rooms, but we've never had a problem, and we always have separate beds (and earplugs!).

30to50FeralHogs · 15/09/2019 18:59

Surely just book a “twin” room? but that's just two little beds, not so good for snuggling up! Two doubles is ideal. Thanks for the suggestions so far, will have a look at Air BnB and Langley Castle.

I use earplugs ForGoodnessCake, which helps with the noise, but the fidgeting is now the problem! I had one memorable night on holiday where I had to crack into the mini bar and try to get drunk on mini vodkas to try and sleep - I ended up with a white noise thing playing on my phone, earplugs, pillow over my head and a bottle of booze in hand, which was when I decided separate beds/rooms/holidays was the way forward!

He has tried to sort his snoring but nothing seems to work. I told him to go to the GP about it as I thought he must have sleep apnoea but she told him he has asthma and gave him an inhaler Confused We don't live together so its not an issue all the time, but holidays are always a tricky point!

I can’t get my head around a dirty weekend in separate beds. Sure, I guess there’s a degree of creativity but that's why a regular twin won't work! Needs to be big enough for the evenings activities but then also be able to go our separate ways at sleep time. We had an awful night with twin beds pushed together, ended up straddling them sideways at one point Grin

Get a family room. These have a double and a single.

Oysterbabe · 15/09/2019 19:44

Get an air bnb. We always do because I refuse to share a room with the kids.

30to50FeralHogs · 15/09/2019 20:06

Yeah been looking at a few with family rooms, that might be the answer. If I get a sofa bed room I just feel guilty as he'll end up on the sofa bed, but if one's a single that will be fine. Just have to bite the bullet and pay extra I guess. It's just annoying as whenever we go on holiday abroad you can get two doubles or a huge king as standard, UK beds are just too small for us!

You need to speak to a different gp re the snoring.

FuriousVexation · 15/09/2019 20:31

The GP will have diagnosed asthma as he's not been truthful about his symptoms.

My ex had sleep apnoea and it was only when I dragged went to the GP with him that he got referred to the sleep clinic etc. Yes he had severe sleep apnoea which coupled with his high blood pressure put him at massive risk of a TIA. He was given a CPAP mask.

(We split up a few months later and he stopped using his mask because he thought it would "make him look like a cripple" to his new woman. He had a heart attack a few weeks later and ended up in hospital for months. Happy days you cunt)

Its mad isn't it, if it were me at risk of dying in my sleep I'd do whatever it took, whether thats wearing a mouthguard, or chin strap or a bloody CPAP, but vanity is strong.

Marriott Royal Bristol has a decent 2 double bed room. Lovely hotel too.

Overseasmom100 · 15/09/2019 22:54

Cardiff Bay...The Future in has rokms with 2 double beds side by side...rooms are huge

30to50FeralHogs · 16/09/2019 01:04

Both of those look great, but we were in Wales a couple of weeks ago, so might go in the other direction this time Smile

Marriott generally look good for two double beds though.

Air BNB have some useful properties but their website is so unintuitive to use, I want to search on an area and can’t see the places all together on a map! Must be missing something, but booking.com etc are much easier to use when you’re not fussy about location.

Bournemouth Marriott is a great hotel with indoor and outdoor pool , jacuzzi , steam and sauna and you can book a room with 2 double beds no problem .
You just make the booking and pay online .
