How much do divorce lawyers cost?

Following on from my previous post, I know I need to get out. I have no savings in my name because H has always controlled our finances. I am obviously going to need a specialist to make sure I get what I'm entitled to. How much money do I need behind me to afford a bloody good lawyer to help me escape from this nightmare?

If there's abuse, you may be entitled to legal aid.

How much a solicitor costs is really going to depend on how long it takes and what they have to do. I would look for someone who does a free short initial consultation and talk through the options.

Mine was about £225 per hour. We had a Consent Order, rather than fighting through Court, but the bill still ran to a good few thousand. Not seen your other post, but if it is at all possible to agree arrangements between you, and then engage solicitors to finalise it and draw up the Order, you'll save a lot of money.

Thank you both. I can see this being a long, messy divorce and very expensive. I am definitely going to enquire about legal aid because it is an abusive marriage. I didn't know legal aid was an option for divorce so very useful information thank you.
