I know it sounds corny, but I just wanted to say a collective thank you to you all!
I really appreciate the advice that I have been given ( and also that others have been given )

Although not a substitute for a face to face chat Mumsnet comes a very close second and the support that we offer each other is overwhelming.

I'm just starting my second glass of vino collapso and I say a huge "cheers" and "bottoms up" to all mumsnetters.

You think this is bad - by the end of the night I'll be all tearful and sentimental

Dp has really come round to mumsnet after he saw Marinas sad thread and all the messages of love and support that are posted there.

batey · 24/08/2002 21:13

Ditto from me Crystaltips! Mind you I'm on my 3rd beer!

Keep thinking we should have a big (Xmas) get together, maybe a 70's/80's theme! See memories thread!! Or it could just be the beer talking!

WideWebWitch · 24/08/2002 21:26

Batey, I was thinking that too, about a christmas get together. It seems like such a community here and it would be great to have a huge party and to meet everyone. And I'm not drinking atm so have no excuse for my fond imaginings

crystaltips · 24/08/2002 21:36

Do you mean an on-line get together or a REAL one !?

I envy all you guys on the 'mainland' alot easier to travel than for the likes of me .... actually that's not exactly true - with Easyjet there's no excuse!!

BUT please can we make it about a fortnight before Xmas? I am doing the entertaining and need to be at home to panic !!

Hang on a minute - maybe January so that we take in some of the sales into the bargain ( s'cuse the pun )

OP posts:
batey · 24/08/2002 21:40

Oh definitely a real one! Jan could be good, skint, but good!

WideWebWitch · 24/08/2002 21:41

I mean a real one. Who's interested? I'm happy to organise if anyone is keen...

crystaltips · 24/08/2002 21:43

ooooh WWW ! How exciting ! I've never been given the chance to do one of these before !

So long as the time and the place is OK you can definitely count me in!

OP posts:
emsiewill · 24/08/2002 21:52

Yes, I enjoyed the one I went to in May, but would love to meet some more of you. And any excuse for a (childless, husbandless) party!

manna · 24/08/2002 21:54

oops - nearly finished the bottle! - dh is away for 2 nights, so drank nearly a bottle tonight but will pretend that it lasted me 2 nights when he gets back - and STILL some left......

crystaltips · 24/08/2002 21:56

Hide the bottle(s) and he'll never know !!
Nice things about DH not being at home is that the mealtimes don't have to interfere with the drinktimes

agree,agree,agree..

lilibet · 26/08/2002 20:16

Very true, the messages of love and support on Marinas thread are fantastic. Nothing can take her pain away but I was so touched by the way that everyone responded, I can't have been the only one crying as I was reading it. Get together? Yes Please! Anywhere with drink, about to go and open the first bottle of the week now. (last nights was the last bottle of last week)

What thread is this you're talking about??? I think I must be missing something...

thumper · 26/08/2002 21:58

Jenny, I think it is the 'Anyone else having a bad day' thread. You will have to go back a bit to see Marina's post because as people have said there are a lot of lovely messages for her.

PamT · 27/08/2002 07:17

Being a SAHM can be quite lonely at times and being able to come on the computer for 15 minutes every so often is like having a friend round for coffee. Also, there is such a wealth of knowledge that someone is bound to know the answer to your question.

A member of another message board that I use died a few weeks ago and the messages of sympathy for her family and friends were amazing. I also love to see everyone congratulating competition winners.

jodee · 27/08/2002 14:23

PamT, I occasionally dip into the website you mentioned (under a different name) and I was touched by the many messages of sympathy for Kelly.

For user-friendlyness, I think the Mumsnet messageboard is miles better though.

Bozza · 27/08/2002 14:42

I agree with Sobernow's point about being able to open up. Especially things to do with relationships (partner, MIL etc) where I might feel somewhat disloyal discussing with someone who knows us.

jessi · 28/08/2002 09:50

Me too Bozza, the thing is I could NEVER say anything like I've said on the MIL thread to my dh, and I have to get it off my chest! Thank-you mumsnet.

Rhubarb · 28/08/2002 15:11

I think it just helps to be able to chat about such a wide range of topics, not all child-related. It makes you feel that you have actually had a half-decent conversation for that day, which boosts you up a bit, especially if you're a SAHM like me. And if you do have a problem it's great to know you can get loads of advice and opinions from people who really do care! I'm touched that when a Mumsnetter occasionally asks for help, people will bend over backwards for her/him! It replenishes my faith in humanity!

Chinchilla · 28/08/2002 19:10

And there is always a giggle to be had somewhere, if you are feeling in need of one.

WideWebWitch · 28/08/2002 19:23

I WISH I'd had mumnset when ds was small. I didn't know any other mums, was depressed and didn't know anything about babies. I'm sure it would have made a huge difference. How's this for a vote of confidence from dp: when we were talking about the possibility of a baby and I was airing all my worries about it he said: "but x would be different and y would be different and you'd have mumsnet this time round"...! I'm a high discloser (so I've been told) and tell people everything but I've still admitted things to people here that I'm not sure I would have done in real life. And I've learned a LOT (and laughed a lot) along the way. Also agree about being a SAHM and sometimes not feeling like you've had a decent adult conversation all day: coming here changes that.

Azzie · 28/08/2002 20:10

Quite agree, WWW - Mumsnet would have really helped me when I was going through the colic/sleep deprivation/depression thing with ds.

ionesmum · 28/08/2002 21:35

I think that if I'd known about Mumsnet from the start I might have managed to keep on breastfeeding dd. As it is I've had so much help & enjoyed talking to so many people.
