Sex after having a baby

How long did everyone wait before having sex after having a baby? :)

OP posts:
Chuchu2019 · 27/08/2019 12:18

6 weeks but that was because I bled for the entire 6 weeks, so as soon as it stopped I jumped right back into the saddle as they say 😂

MommaJP · 27/08/2019 12:24

Im sure it was around 3 weeks maybe a little less but I would wait till you feel completely ready, I tried to rush it felt bad lol

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 27/08/2019 12:25

About a month but could have done it earlier if there'd been any willing participants - I was unbelievably horny (and single Sad ) while pregnant and immediately after giving birth!! DS was in SCIBU for 10 days with me with him - there was one couple staying with their baby and they did it while they were there Wink

SignedUpJust4This · 27/08/2019 16:22

6 weeks because my stitches had healed and bleeding stopped but tbh it was a probably 3-6 months more before it started to feel OK. Stitches scars were quite uncomfortable. Was generally sore and uncomfortable but I felt I had to plough on because I was scared of losing that side of me. I should've just waited longer. Second time round I recovered much quicker but no stitches that time.

lrh3891 · 27/08/2019 16:23

I still haven't. My child will be 3 later this year Sad

NameChangeNugget · 27/08/2019 17:02

Just under a month

MoaningMinnie1 · 27/08/2019 17:08

Eight weeks. I bled for about seven but anyway I didn't feel like sex so eight weeks was about right for me. People vary, I knew someone who only waited a fortnight. The important thing is to feel ready.

YouWhoNeverArrived · 27/08/2019 18:41

3 days! I was keen to get back into the saddle. It was slightly uncomfortable initially but everything was back to normal by about 2 weeks after the birth. I had EMCS though, so I didn't have any tearing down below.

userabcname · 27/08/2019 18:49

Can't remember exactly but 3-4 months and then very very carefully. I tore badly and that whole area was an absolute car crash for ages.

Gillian1980 · 27/08/2019 21:57

5 weeks after first baby. 9 weeks after second baby - would have been sooner but no opportunity!
Both were cesaereans.

ParrotsForLife · 27/08/2019 21:58

5 months.

Cambionome · 27/08/2019 22:00

6 months. Don't rush if you don't feel ready either physically or emotionally.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 27/08/2019 22:03

I really can't remember. Probably a few weeks.

I've had 2 vaginal births and one c-section, and I found it to be sore & uncomfortable after the section, but not the others

Hedgehogblues · 27/08/2019 22:05

Five months. I was too knakered before that

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 27/08/2019 22:07

@Dontfuckingsaycheese Shock

MintTeaLady · 27/08/2019 22:08

About 3 months but it took me 9 months to properly get back into it and enjoy it again

SinkGirl · 27/08/2019 22:09

11 months or so. My sex drive disappeared completely until I stopped pumping / lactating and then it took a few cycles for it to return.

You’re supposed to wait six weeks whether you have a vaginal or caesarean birth, on account of the giant open wound in your uterus where your placenta detaches. This really needs to heal before you have sex as there’s otherwise a high risk of infection - i know of a couple of women who ended up with sepsis for this reason, which is definitely not what you want!

tirednhungry247 · 27/08/2019 22:15

6 weeks!

Depends on how you have healed, if you had a natural birth etc.
Even 6 weeks for me was a bit early and we had to stop as I needed/had stitches so we waited a week and all was good!

YouWhoNeverArrived · 28/08/2019 23:56

@SinkGirl That's not true - you can have sex again when you feel ready, unless your doctor has specifically advised you otherwise. The official NHS advice doesn't give a timeframe:
