First date help!

So, after many years I'm heading into the dating world and have a date set up on Thursday night with someone I met on Tinder, although we're still to decide on where to go. I'm as nervous as hell!

Is there an ideal time limit, do you think? We're both up early for work the next day.

I was thinking of suggesting a film then dinner but thought that could be seen as boring? I live in a big northern city so there's lots of options but I don't know whether something like cocktail making sessions or an activity like axe-throwing would be suitable for the first date.

Any tips on how I can politely say at the end, if I need to, that I don't have any interest in him romantically? Or what to say if I feel the opposite?

Feel like I'm back at square one with this!

I think seeing a film is a terrible idea. You'll have no chance to talk and just be sitting in the dark with a stranger. I would meet for a cocktail and then head to a relaxed spot for dinner.

Agree that cinema for a first date is an awful idea! You want to be able to chat and get to know them right? I would just do dinner. Good luck :)

For a first date I wouldn’t commit to anything more than a couple of drinks. I’ve been in dates and wanted to leave after 5 minutes. It would have been hell to be stuck on a dinner date.

*on dates

I'm going on my first date from old on Monday. In the same boat as you. Im very outdoorsy, but don't want to end up miles from anywhere with a stranger. It will be interesting to see where we both end up .
Have fun anyway. Flowers

Just a couple of drinks is enough for a first date.

You could hate each other at first sight and not even get to the end of drink one.

Seriously, keep it short. If you get on well then you can stay out for longer but don't make a time commitment such as dinner or an activity.

Hope it goes well.

Thanks for the replies. I won't suggest going to the cinema as I can see now why it would be better for a possible subsequent date!

Just a quick drink and a chat. Have an escape plan after an hour if needed. I have known on sight that I’m not interested and even an hour can be painful.

A film and dinner could mean you’re committed for hours! What if he’s awful or just not your type? It’s a waste of time for both of you.

A good one for the thanks but no thanks is.. 'I'm sorry, now I've met you in real life you are reminding me so much of my brother/cousin/ex//boss that I could never have romantic feelings for you. Thanks and good luck with your search' Grin
