Will it still get there?!

Sorry...I know it’s an odd thread!

It'll get there fine.

TipTopAllOverTheShop · 21/08/2019 23:12

Yes. No need for any more replies. On behalf of the whole of MN.

Bunnybigears · 21/08/2019 23:13

Yes all you need is house number and postcode for it to get there.

Broken2019 · 21/08/2019 23:13

I hope so!! Just realised tonight and it’s an important one!

Yes of course.

The Post Office doesn't pay any attention to anything other than the road name and number and the post code.

You don't have to put anything else on an envelope these days.

Broken2019 · 21/08/2019 23:13

Haha sorry!

Why am I the only person apparently not to know this is fine?!

Counties are never shown in the results on the Royal Mail postcode and address checker website so I just copy its format which always has the main ‘postal’ town in the address written in capitals followed by the postcode underneath.

Royal Mail hasn't required counties for at least 30 years.

Main use of counties these days seems to be working out what council you come under and when your bins are collected!

Alicewond · 22/08/2019 03:56

Depends if you put a postcode without an exact address? A post code will only take to an area

PhilCornwall1 · 22/08/2019 04:10

As everyone else has said, house name/number, street and postcode, nothing else needed.

duebaby2 · 22/08/2019 04:33

As long as the postcode is on along with everything but the county you'll be fine.

My house is in two counties technically so never really know what to put and neither do any of my letter senders apparently. One is my council's county and the other is the neighbouring county that we are bordering on that we are technically under due to the closest town being under that county not my councils. I get a mix of letters saying one or the other. The post still gets delivered to me though

I've noticed some areas don't even use the county and just put the closest city/town then postcode

Alicewond · 22/08/2019 04:37

Ok majority says it will get there.

DappledThings · 22/08/2019 07:18

Counties should specifically not be included in postal addresses. I get really (unnecessarily) annoyed when I receive letters that include Kent.

DH always includes Surrey when sending anything to his parents just to annoy me!

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 22/08/2019 11:59

If they can get a letter to dh addressed
Mr Ithinkmycat
Top Flat, town, county to him I think you'll be ok

Broken2019 · 22/08/2019 16:43

It got there Grin

Postcodes aren't based on counties anyway. They relate to the location of the main sorting office you get your post from.

Royal Mail hasn't taken account of counties for a very long time. Good job, as I notice many people still keep putting Middlesex down as county when it hasn't existed for ages.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/08/2019 21:00

Baffled by why this is in Relationships, but glad it got there!

I once started addressing an envelope for a card I was sending to my granny, who lived in a nursing home. I'd sealed the envelope and put the stamp on, but I got distracted part way through and somehow posted it addressed just to Mrs [Gaspode's Granny], [Name of Nursing Home]. Blush

The Royal Mail played an absolute blinder. When it finally reached my granny a few weeks later, the envelope was covered with notes from half the sorting offices in the country confirming that they didn't have a nursing home of that name, but have you tried ...
