Friend being abused

So I met another mum at through our children's nursery. Honestly she's probably one of the nicest women I've ever met and our kids adore each other.
I first met her partner at another child's birthday, I spoke to him as I would anyone and found him very blunt. Nothing weird, just blunt. His child came running though with some sweeties that were on the buffet and he asked him where he'd got them from and his child shrugged, he's not very verbal. I said that there was a huge bowl of them and the kids had just been helping themselves so I wouldn't worry, he told me that it's his child and it's up to him what he does, not me. I never meant to parent his kid, simply laughed as they were all being silly and enjoying themselves.
I've met him a few times in between and he's very quick to tell my friend to stop taking and that they need to leave. She told me he'd bought her concert tickets to a band she loves, nice right? No. She said he refused to stand and dance with her because he didn't know the songs, she wanted to but felt awkward doing so alone so sat through the whole thing as he wouldn't take part.
The other day we went to her birthday party. As soon as we arrived he informed me my daughter had to eat a burger before she could play. I laughed and sent her off to play, she's 2 so wouldn't understand that. When I arrived I opened her one of my drinks but she couldn't drink it because he had already made her one, the stare he gave her was unreal.
Every half and hour or so she would disappear with him and when she returned she would sit alone. I spoke to her friends and they mentioned he'd always been controlling and didn't really like him or the way he speaks to her or others.
He decided that at 6pm the party was over, a 4 hour birthday party! He dragged her off to the kitchen again and her friends quickly stood up and went "time to go" and we all left.
I could of cried for her.
Basically my question is, what the hell do I do? I can't keep seeing him be like this to her. I'll end up getting angry and saying something to him. I don't want to upset her, but feel like I need to reach out to her in case she's trapped with him?
Any ideas, also sorry for rambling.
