Would not get involved with anyone at work. Becomes awkward if it backfires

HUZZAH212 · 03/07/2019 23:41

Don't shit on your own doorstep. If it fails these things become awkward and office gossip fodder.

Piggle23 · 03/07/2019 23:51

Loads of people meet at work. If you think you can handle if it maturely if it doesn't work then go for it. I'm sure you don't work for MI5 etc. Ignore the hand wringers.

caffeineaddictx · 03/07/2019 23:55

"Don't shit on your own doorstep" don't know why but I found that quite funny 😁

HUZZAH212 · 03/07/2019 23:56

To be honest I do think it mostly boils down to how closely you work together, if either of you is in a senior position, if your company frowns on colleagues entering relationships together. If it's a big company and Bob from IT is in a seperate department to you, it very different to Bob you are partnered up with for 8hr shifts and it's just the two of you.

Pomgirl · 03/07/2019 23:57

I met my partner at work, now been together 3 years.. go for it Smile

Likeazombi · 03/07/2019 23:57

Personally i wouldn't.
I work in a pretty casual, sociable place, I count lots of my colleagues as friends.
It does happen and sometimes it works out and sometimes it becomes gossip fodder..
I like to keep my reputation as a professional, level headed person that can be trusted.
I'm hoping to progress though the company also and relationships with juniors doesn't sit right with me.
Suppose it depends on the culture of your work place, your plans for progression and what would happen if things didn't work out?

EAIOU · 04/07/2019 00:11

What's stopping you?

1forAll74 · 04/07/2019 00:55

Oh well,, is this modern life these days, ie, you like a guy at work, and don't know whether to text him. It's the modern world now, but things seem to have gone backwards!
Many years ago, like ages and ages, I worked in an office, and there was a man who I had to see often ,work related. but after a while.there became a truly massive spark between us.It was like some amazing chemistry between us, and in those days, no phones and modern things. Because of the work and office situation,we had to endure just meeting up for work related stuff, but it became obvious to us that things were going to happen sooner or later. and they did. But it was all in the days of romance and a more lovely simple way of things.

I met my current DH through work. Just had our 8th wedding anniversary.

Met my previous boyfriend through work too and we were together 3 years.

Where else are you going to meet someone?!?

HUZZAH212 · 04/07/2019 01:15

@1forAll74 Before modern times pre phones? Was that in 1876? 😁

BitOfFun · 04/07/2019 02:32

Can you get a colleague to pass him a note saying "My mate fancies you"?

Monty27 · 04/07/2019 03:45

I'd be wary in a work situation. I certainly wouldn't make the first move. But that's just me. lack of confidence

TooManyPuppies · 04/07/2019 06:25

I'd prefer to meet someone in person by getting to know them gradually through work or the like than through online dating, but that's me.
I would, however, prefer they were just in the same company than working side by side. I have worked for companies of over 6000 people and then in companies of 5-10, so a larger company where you aren't on top of each other or the subject of gossip would be a deciding factor for me.

Don’t shaft the payroll.

Just don’t

toffeeapple123 · 04/07/2019 09:23

If he’s into you, he’ll come to you

Moralitym1n1 · 04/07/2019 09:56

If he’s into you, he’ll come to you.

Exactly.

Why would you be texting him - if it's mutual he'll make opportunities to chat, ask you out etc.

Moralitym1n1 · 04/07/2019 09:57

(all you have to do is be friendly and flirty).

Unregistered19 · 04/07/2019 16:39

Thank you for the replies.

If it helps it’s a big company with over 120+ staff and never closes, so don’t have contact all of the time
