Toxic

How do I get out of/dramatically change a toxic (on both sides) relationship with someone I still love?

We don't listen to each other, we fight all the time, we resent each other when one tries and the other doesn't...it's painful and I'm at a loss, and sick of feeling miserable.

Please help.

No kids together, not living together, separate finances. Spend all our free time together though and have been together 3.5 years.

The logistics are simple, you break it off and cut contact, and fill your life with things that make you happy. In time, you won't think about him anymore.

What's keeping you from doing that?

MatthewBramble · 01/06/2019 19:08

Dump. Move on. Forget about it. "Real love" is not "toxic".

Aquamarine1029 · 01/06/2019 19:12

Seems to me you love drama more than you actually love him. He makes you miserable. What's to love? Just end it already and move on.

BohemianTragedy · 01/06/2019 19:22

Typical cliche but sometimes things are really good and I feel he really gets me. I'm not looking for perfect because that doesn't exist. I just want to enjoy my partners' company and feel appreciated/supported and him the same....sometimes I do, but when it's bad we just both dig our heels in so much.

What is 'real love'...?

Well real love is not toxic.

It's mutual love, mutual respect, mutual kindness to each other, supporting each other when needed, laughing together, pulling together during tricky times.

If you are like this when you don't live together, are not married and do not have kids it's is not going anywhere. Life (and love) should not be this hard.

Leave each other alone and both find someone more compatible.
