Is my sense of humour really "off"?

Just looking for some opinions.

I have a stupid sense of humour and what seems hilarious to me often seems pointless and ridiculous to others.

Anyway on Friday night my partner had had a bath and left his clothes and shoes in the bathroom.

Before we went to bed (around 1.30am) I went into the bathroom to wash etc and noticed a slug had slithered over his trousers that he had left on the floor, I found this quite funny but then decided to pick the slug up in some tissue and put it inside his shoe (just the slug itself, not the tissue). Once done I went into the living room with a straight face and said "hey, there's a slug in your shoe...I would've taken it out but I darnt touch it...".

DP said "a slug IN my shoe? don't lie" so I insisted it was true, tried so hard not to start laughing and in the end he went in to look...I heard him say "eww...and he picked the shoe up, dropped the slug into the toilet and said "goodbye" to it and I couldn't help but crease up, partly at my own joke but also at his calm reaction, I just thought it was hilarious and then when he started saying he couldn't understand how it had got into the shoe my stomach was actually hurting from laughing so much .

Anyway this morning we were talking about it and he half joked and said "I bet you put it there" and after laughing uncontrollably again I admitted I had.

Anyway, to my point...he didnt find it funny at all, he wen't really quiet and said he doesn't go around doing things to my stuff and doesnt expect me to do it to his etc...

Tonight I tried to joke about it again with him and he's adament that he doesn't find it funny and is still slightly annoyed by it and in his words "it's the other stuff you do too, it's just not funny".

I've been thinking it over and I just wanted some opinions really, was it a stupid thing to do? I only meant it as a joke but I don't want to be the irritating person that thinks she's funny but just gets on everyones nerves...

If your partner didn't "get on" with your sense of humour would you tone it down?

You really had to "be there" or maybe it's just me lol

What made me laugh about it was the sheer look of confusion on his face, its like these hidden camera shows like trigger happy tv...I remember one where Dom Jolly was acting as an Ice Cream van bloke and when a woman ordered an ice cream he made it up and then just splat it on the glass of the van and then watched it drip down as if he was really confused, the woman was completely confused, it was just hilarious! hard to explain lol

Enid · 22/07/2007 21:02

not hilarious surely?

[fails to understand side splitting nature of mildly funny trick]

AbRoller · 22/07/2007 21:08

WWB I feel that was totally unnecessary. This thread has nothing to do with any other. You didn't find it funny, some did. There was no need to bring in such personal stuff. As you pointed out it was weeks ago! Is she suppossed to live the way that thread described all the time now to fit with your image of her life.

Bad form

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/07/2007 21:09

You see, now thats funny

WigWamBam · 22/07/2007 21:09

I'm sorry if I've caused offence.

But having read some of Cupcake's other posts, I really wouldn't be putting anything nasty into this guys shoes. That's all.

AbRoller · 22/07/2007 21:14

Sorry, I went a bit OTT just think whats said on one thread should stay there particularly if it's of a sensitive nature.

Sorry for the outburst

Chipstick · 22/07/2007 21:25

WIth the exception of the last few posts I have to say I've been laughing out loud at some of the posts.

Laughter will always bring happiness to a household, even if its childish behaviour that makes it happen.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 22/07/2007 21:36

Some of these posts are IMO positively vulgar and childish.

And as for WWB's post, it was not in the slightest an unreasonable comment. We are either a community who look out for each other, or a series of one dimensional posts.

My money is on community and caring TBH.

Enid · 22/07/2007 21:37

laughing uncontrollably - stomach hurting?

I mean, you put a slug in his shoe

Phew you two...I was starting to think I was in a parallel universe.....

DangerousBeans · 22/07/2007 21:43

WWB's original comment was relevant and sensible.

Enid · 22/07/2007 21:47

"One of my funniest moments in my whole life has to be the day that dp had REALLY pissed me off, so I was in the kitchen washing up and id farted...moments later dp comes in to the kitchen his arm outstretched clambering for the window saying "What the Fuck is that SMELL?"
I said "I dont know"
and he flung the back door open "Rancid Stench!" and went round the house opening all the windows and it was ME...
Oh I chuckled and chuckled and chuckled. "

one of the funnies moments in your whole life

[aghast]

Reminds me of when my friend went on a date with a bloke to the cinema.

They'd bought a big bag of pick & mix. Man made a hole in the bottom of a bag and poked in his willy. Friend put her hand in and found what she thought was one of those marshmallow flumpy things, but it kind of grew and twitched in her hand. She screamed in horror. He thought it was the most hilarious gag in the history of anything.

The wierdest thing is that they're now married.

frapachino · 22/07/2007 21:50

I once put a used condom tied in a knot in my boyfriends shoe - it squelshed when he trod on it He didn't find it funny either

controlfreakyflitwick · 22/07/2007 21:55

frapachino · 22/07/2007 21:58

I once worked at a pub and stitched the landlords trousers at the bottom so when he tried to put them on he fell over - I wasn't even there to see it but it still makes me laugh

frapachino · 22/07/2007 21:58

I've taken a picture of my dh's nob and sent it to my sister!

EricGallagher · 22/07/2007 21:59

EricGallagher · 22/07/2007 22:03

The smell that is produced by your bodily functions is not funny.

Slugs in shoes are not funny

Throwing beads on the floor. Not funny.

Enid · 22/07/2007 22:04

throwing beads on the floor

mummytosteven · 22/07/2007 22:08

different strokes but different folks and all that, but re:the slug - if your partner didn't find it funny when you joked about it the first time, why on earth did you try and joke with him again about it???
