I feel a bit of a dork here but hear me out. I met Peter* at one of my regular fav haunts. It's a quiet, out-of-the-way place used by those who share a common pass-time. Peter & I must have similar schedules because we often rock-up at the same time. Over a period, we've progressed from a smile & nod at a distance, to polite small-talk, to sharing a space to do our hobby side-by-side - with the accompanying chit-chat that goes with it. I felt like we were right on the cusp of becoming quite pally. I don't have a tv & seldom read the news online apart from a quick scan of the headlines, I'm a bit out of touch really. Then a week ago I suddenly saw his pic in the news & thought 'Oh fuck'. I was shocked. I know Peter's just a bloke like any other person underneath it. He doesn't court the press like some do but now I feel a bit funny about the next time we meet up. He's never told me who he is other than first names & I suspect he likes the quiet friendship. I feel funny about it now. Do I say something? If I don't I feel a bit awkward. Wwyd?

OP, there are a lot of posts here. Lots of names, lots of hobbies. Has anyone correctly identified either? No need to name, just a yes or no will do (for me).
:)

@CornflakeShark
Can I ask if anyone has so far suggested your shared hobby?

Caplin · 22/05/2019 22:22

I reckon it is Dungeons and dragons gaming with Rick Wakeman

Twocoffees · 22/05/2019 22:28

Community gardening with the very lovely Huw Edwards?

PaddingtonsHat · 22/05/2019 22:29

wentworth16 · 22/05/2019 23:23

Is the OP coming back? Tell us OP if we have guessed already. For a host of reasons, I'm pretty convinced she is talking about Paul Weller! Have I said that already? I don’t want to burst your bubble, if it is, but you are one of a few to share the hobby and meet up.........Smile

JaneJeffer · 22/05/2019 23:38

OP is just sitting on a bar stool.

Twocoffees · 22/05/2019 23:42

Book club with John Bercow?

WatcherintheRye · 22/05/2019 23:57

Wentworth, what's Paul Weller's pastime? Is it archery? Or tree hugging?

Lurleene · 23/05/2019 00:05

@Chickoletta Patrick Gale is one of my favourite authors, a Perfectly Good Man in particular is one of the most moving books I've ever read. I went to a literary festival a few years ago and saw Patrick do a reading. (David Nicholls sat next to me. Namedropper )
A bit later in another talk in another tent I found myself stood right next to Patrick and was desperate to talk to him but during his reading he had mentioned he was very shy so I couldn't bring myself to do it. I wish I had now, I'll never get the chance again! Next time you have orchestra practice please tell him Lurleene thinks he is just dandy 😶

I would fade away tbh. Birds of a feather stick together and sooner or later you will get hurt, even if it's only a friendship. He probably hangs out with celebs like Craig David or something..that's probably more his sort of friend

RiversDisguise · 23/05/2019 02:00

Lol

I imagine, if it is Alan Titschmarsh, that Tokyo sex parties with Peter Andre are more his bag.

Is it Robert Pattinson?

LynetteScavo · 23/05/2019 06:46

I now want to have a hobby which involves a quiet, out-of-the-way place used by those who share a common pass-time. The only place I can think of like that is weatherspoons frequented by people who like to drink.

Or an allotment? Can you work side by side on an allotment?

wentworth16 · 23/05/2019 06:56

Or a coffee shop.

Tinytomato2 · 23/05/2019 07:02

It had better not be topless scything with Poldark, we don't like stealth boasts on here you know!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/05/2019 07:06

Theonlylivingboy Are you me?

Dammit, Alleycat1, I/we knew I/we would out myself/ourselves by sharing my/our hobbies.

Thank God we didn't also share the fact that when we knit we sit next to Richard Osman and discuss his World Cup of Crisps.

Tinytomato2 · 23/05/2019 07:09

If you're scrap booking with Idris Elba, please tell him I think he'd make a great Bond! Grin

Ghostontoast · 23/05/2019 07:13

Championship tiddlywinks with Gordon Ramsay?

ObvsItsNotMe · 23/05/2019 07:15

Lentil weaving with Vinnie Jones. Obvs.

CornflakeShark · 23/05/2019 07:49

Topless scything with Poldark had me in stitches. For those who've asked, no, no-one has mentioned our pastime but it's quite niche. & for those who said 'how come other people didn't recognise him?' - I didn't say they didn't. It was the very discrete reaction of others that first got me wondering. & No, he's not on this list.
