It was a harvest festival song...all I can remember is

"Now here are fine apples"

Or something... Confused

The apples are ripe, the plums are red?

HennyPennyHorror · 06/05/2019 11:47

I don't remember that being part of it but could have forgotten...do you remember any more Betty?

Just found a blog post with the words! angalmond.blogspot.com/2015/09/the-fruit-and-vegetable-song.html

The only other one I can think of is Autumn Days. We were always singing that at my CofE school Grin

Cauliflowers fluffy
And cabbages green
Strawberries are sweeter
Than any I've seen
Beetroot purple and onion white
All grow steadily day and night.
The apples are ripe, the plums are red
Broads beans are sleeping in a blankety bed.

I bet its not that one now I've typed it out!

I’m so glad somebody other than me knows this song. I’m not 40 yet but this was my favourite harvest festival song from school and I was disappointed they didn’t sing it at dd’s harvest festivak

beelover · 06/05/2019 12:04

It's still being sung around here. My DGCs sung it at their C of E school's harvest festival service. I will also now be singing it for the rest of the day Grin

HennyPennyHorror · 06/05/2019 12:05

That's not the one I'm thinking of...glad others have had a memory though!

Mine might have been in the Come and Praise book.

Did you have a good relationship with this hymn?

Grin‘Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled...’

So I mustn’t forgeeeeeeeeeeeeet.... No I mustn’t forgeeeeeeeeeeeet Grin

That Come and Praise book makes me shudder a bit.

Craftypuss · 06/05/2019 12:16

Is it this one - a vague memory!

Now here are ripe apples for you and me,
We eat them to make us grow strong
And now we are glad
and say thankyou to God
and sing him our harvest song

HennyPennyHorror · 06/05/2019 12:31

Crafty Oh my GOODNESS! That's it!! Thank you!

Glad I could help! Can't remember any more of it, and Google isn't cooperating.Hmm
Think I still have my copies of Come and Praise - 1 and 2!!

CuriousAboutChicken · 06/05/2019 12:57

@hullaballoonie that one! Everyone had to whisper 'shhh!' after singing the final line before the song ended. Which usually turned into a competition as to who could do the loudest, spittiest 'shhh'.
