Work colleague described as "having edges" :-0

Recently overheard a work colleague describing another work colleague as "having edges" - am baffled as to what that means - picked up that it is not a complimentary trait...but am at a loss to what in practice it would mean...any ideas?

Maybe that they are a bit sharp in their manner, or a spiky personality?

LazyYogi · 24/04/2019 13:59

A bit prickly, not particularly soft and approachable? Tbh in some circumstances I expect it's a good trait to have!

Rough around the edges?

Meaning they are a little green/inexperienced

BiscuitDrama · 24/04/2019 14:07

I would take it as can be a bit spiky, but rough around the edges could also work.

Putthatlampshadeonyourhead · 24/04/2019 14:08

It's a compliment at my work.

We like people to have 'edges' when needed.

ProfYaffle · 24/04/2019 14:10

Agree with 'a bit spiky'. There's also a phrase to "knock the edges" off someone - means taken them down a bit when they're getting above themselves, soften them down.

Good boundaries that withstand low level complaining and unfair demands.

wow - what a variety of responses! Thanks Ladies! Just goes to show that not all things are negative - some perceived negative comments can indeed be put on your CV!! Haha ;-)

Jeffrey Skilling liked to hire "guys with spikes".

That was fine.

yes PicsinRed but as we know guys with spikes are good (man speak for gutsy/confident), gals with spikes are viewed as bad ("difficult/bolshy")...!!

I would assume they meant to do with their hair (If they're black)....

PicsInRed · 24/04/2019 15:48

I dunno. The Federal Prosecutor didnt think those blokes were so good.

ejm1 · 24/04/2019 16:13

no - the person is white so not a reference to hair on this occasion.
