Universal credit after seperation

I think DH and I are going to separate- which is led by him but I think it's for the best as it's been miserable living with him for a while now.

I've checked and I will be eligable for universal credit but ive never been on it before and I have a few questions if anyone has any experience of it. There is another potential option of moving in with a friend but I can't make my mind up which would be best- so I'm going to run costs of both.

How long did it take between you applying and the first payment? Also I'm on a Dmp (debt management plan) which I'll have to get recalculated after I move did to having to take all the bills. will the Dmp affect the universal credit in any way?

I have applied recently. It was about the 5 weeks they said it would be. Surprisingly straight forward. Done the application online then had an appointment at the job centre to receive my log in code. Payment went in when they said it would. It is about £40 less a month than what was estimated.

You can apply before you move out. Just put that are are claiming as a single person. STEXH and I are still living together whilst he gets some money together. Divorce is going through and I was allowed to claim because they said we are separated. No proof even needed!

Hi! Is your DMP with HMRC? If not, shouldn't affect the U.C.
You should get an answer 5 weeks from application submitted. Provided that you complete everything they request in the to-do list.

No it's with Step change so that should be fine then.

Thanks all- very reassuring. :)
