When it’s just the two of you, do you call each other by their names?

He calls me darling which is also what he calls the kids so they whip their heads around too and everyone is confused

I call him fat boy

weegiemum · 15/04/2019 12:10

I call him by his name, he calls me by my name. We both have families that call us by unappreciated nicknames, so we don't do that to each other!

Twolipstulips · 15/04/2019 12:14

We both have the same nickname for each other. Unfortunately for him it’s a cutesy girls name (nothing like my real name), I forget myself sometimes when in public and call him it in front of people. People usually assume they have misheard..
I have asked him if he wants to let the nickname die out, but he likes it secretly so it’s staying.
We have now started calling the (male) dog it too..

I also get caught completely off-guard when my OH calls me by my actual name. Usually when around my parents or if I ignore the first few calls haha. 99% of the time, he uses a specific nickname which is nothing like my name, and is not a generic nickname e.g. honey, sweetie etc. I use a silly shortening of his name or something generic e.g. my love/gorgeous

darnsarf · 15/04/2019 12:17

I call him by his name normally......he was dickhead yesterday though

Drogosnextwife · 15/04/2019 12:18

I call mine the shortened version of his name because he hates it and I find it hillarious. Generally we will call each other our actually names or sometimes he calls me darling and I'll call him babe but that's if I want him to do something for me 😂

ImHastingsDarling · 15/04/2019 12:19

Love

If I call him his name it's weird and he knows I'm pissed off with him

Boom76 · 15/04/2019 12:22

His name

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 15/04/2019 12:23

We have a range of nicknames but most often I call him peach and he calls me babs. Our actual names are only used if shouting from a different part of the house!

MotherOfTheNoise · 15/04/2019 12:26

He calls me by my nickname or babe/love.

I call him by his surname or banana 🤷🏻‍♀️

LEELULUMPKIN · 15/04/2019 12:30

It's "love" in this house. When we are discussing each other with others we use the first two letters of our names which can be shortened.

Can't remember the last time we used each other's full first name's and we have been together 25 years!

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 15/04/2019 12:32

We're not pet name people. I find it's rare that you need to use a name if you're with the person, eg both in the kitchen you'd just say 'could you pass me the teatowel please' or 'in making coffee would you like one?' rather than call them by any name it's only them there who else would you be asking? We were friends for a long time before we dated and often referred to each other by surname as was common in our friendship group, but we did stop doing that when we became a couple, also we now have the same double barreled surname so it would be confusing.

autumnboys · 15/04/2019 12:34

By a nickname that is a shortening of his surname. I didn’t know his actual first name for the year I knew him before we started going out.

mcjx · 15/04/2019 12:41
