Suggestions for good professional/work clothes that aren't too "suity"?

Hi all,
I'm looking for clothes for a female, mid-20s, for a professional job - at the moment I usually wear hoodies, denim trousers and loose t-shirts which I'm guessing make me like more like a student..!

But I don't want to be wearing blazers and buttoned up white shirts etc.. (nothing so formal)

Any ideas for attractive looking clothes that also look quite professional? Ideally in the £20-30 per item price range and anything that would make me look taller would be even better.

Please feel free to link to pages on any clothing websites :)

I usually wear dresses because although my role is professional it's a casual work environment so it's easy to find smart but not "formal" dresses. I sometimes wear a pencil skirt as they suit my shape, with a top or blouse. Other than that black trousers as they can be worn with different styles of tops to suit the environment you're in.

Do you mind me asking what you do or tge sector you work in?

Buy a pencil skirt that fits well, then go to h and m or topshop and buy some different colour blouses, get some well fitting tights and boots or shoes. This is my standard work 'uniform'.

Try the personal shopper service at M&S, they are often better value that they seem, have a wide range of office wear and the personal shopper will challenge you to try a few things you might not have considered.

Like chestylarue52 said, buy some plain neutral basics like black/grey/navy skirt and trousers then buy a load of different tops, blouses, jumpers etc.

Personally, I get most of my work trousers and skirts from Next because they do a petite range, I'm 5'2". I've got tops from places like Oasis, New Look and H&M.
