Why do people act like this?

I know 2 people really that I can't work out. If I'm trouble or need helping they are on the other end of the phone and offer advice but once everything is good and I don't need help/advice/support anymore , they're nowhere to be seen.

For example , when I was pregnant , I made friends with a woman that had the same problems as me while expecting and offered support. We became close friends and carried on talking but one day she didn't reply and she's been hot/cold since then.

Same with my boss. I quit my job today - kind with gifts but didn't approach me to say goodbye /thanks. I had to find her.

I know you could say they are both busy but it's just a general vibe I get . Both are hiding it seems and I just want to be friends.

Just to be clear this isn't said with malice

Exmine your own behaviour...
Are you sure that you engage with them at the same level when you're not having problems, i.e are you sure you don't subconsciously ditch them when things are good??

That routine generally tends to wear a bit thin after a while....

Remember the people who genuinely care for you are the ones who pick you up when you're on your arse, not the ones who put you there in the first place.

I think some people get an ego boost from being needed

Maybe they were there for you because they could see you could do with some support, but weren't necessarily someone they would have struck up a friendship with otherwise. That's nothing against you, but that it was done to be kind not that they were looking for a friend iyswim?
